Brighouse v Worksop

Monday 12th September 2022, 8.10pm (day 4,036)

Brighouse v Worksop, 12/9/22

A slightly familiar scene perhaps, whether generally or specifically to this location and club. But I don’t care. This take on it pleases me and although my lot (in orange) lost 2-0 this was the most pleasant thing about the day.

Abington services, M74

Sunday 11th September 2022, 12.20pm (day 4,035)

Abington services, 11/9/22

The drive home. The convenience of Abington service station on the M74, two and a half hours from Dundee, and usually three hours from home: unless the bastards close the M6, like they did this weekend. But that’s a different and undepicted story. I hope, at least, that this couple, also heading south, still felt affectionate once they got home.

Darrach Hill (an arse)

Saturday 10th September 2022, 11.25am (day 4,034)

Darrach Hill, 10/9/22

Darrach Hill lies a short (but not easy) way north of the town of Kilsyth, in central Scotland. Ot becomes the fifty-ninth County Top that I have surmounted — and if you’re interested in that parallel project please do follow my other blog. The summit of this hill is only 1,171 feet/357m above sea level — sounds easy, right? Don’t you believe it. The crap that one has to negotiate to reach the summit fully justifies my use of the anatomical reference in the title of this post.

Storage facility

Friday 9th September 2022, 2.55pm (day 4,033)

Joe abd back doors, 9/9/22

Back to Dundee then, and back to the storage facility, in which, a few weeks ago, the contents of Joe’s room in halls were deposited. This place reminds me of nothing so much as that scene in Matrix: Reloaded where there are all these ‘back doors’. I expected a hundred Agent Smiths to leap out at us.

Jackdaw negotiation

Thursday 8th September 2022, 3.45pm (day 4,032)

Jackdaws and meal, 8/9/22

“I dunno mate. It gets worse and worse. Look at these scraps.”

“Know exactly what you mean, Bob. You just can’t get the humans these days. Must be global warming or summat.”

“Well, let’s see what we can get out of it before that twat over there decides to muscle in.”

Joe, at the latest farewell meal

Wednesday 7th September 2022, 7.45pm (day 4,031)

Joe farewell meal, 7/9/22

This seems a very long time ago now. Another reason that I could not sort out my dead Mac for as long as I did was that we had to run Joe back up to his second year of uni in Dundee (of which more shortly). Two days before, we had the latest in what seems a series of farewell meals. Doubtless there’ll be more, unless of course this time he never comes back at all.

Mac into hospital (11 days ago…)

Tuesday 6th September 2022, 9.45am (day 4,030)

Mac into hospital, 6/9/22

The absence of recent posts and the aforementioned ‘computer problems’ are here represented by a crap photo, but that just epitomises it all. Still, I’m back up and running again now, 11 days later. Kind of.

Monday morning, Nutclough

Monday 5th September 2022, 9.15am (day 4,029)

Nutclough morning, 5/9/22

And from the evening, to the morning — not having moved very far. These houses constitute home; although I have neatly covered up our own windows with a tree trunk.

Aurora sunset

Sunday 4th September 2022, 7.50pm (day 4,028)

Aurora sunset, 4/9/22

It’s not really the aurora of course. But the sunset tonight was doing a reasonable impression of it. The nights draw in….

I’m sure we’re not the same species

Saturday 3rd September 2022, 2.15pm (day 4,027)

Disparate dogs, 3/9/22

With no posts for ten days perhaps you thought I’d finally given up the ghost, or at least the blog had — but no, ’twas that old staple, “computer problems”. Not entirely solved now, so bear with me, but I shall start on the catching-up process at least. This encounter seems quite a while ago now, but one can see the basic curiosity-mingled-with-sheer-terror that this little dog exhibits, faced with this giant Newfoundland. Yes, they are the same species. That’s genetic engineering for you.
