Foggy morning, Manchester airport

Wednesday 18th March 2015, 9.50am (day 1,301)

Foggy airport, 18/3/15

I don’t feel my photos on here have been that great lately, and one reason has been a decided lack of light. Except for last Tuesday (10th), which wasn’t bad, we pretty much haven’t seen the sun in March. Cold, grey, flat light throughout. This morning was little different. The fog was clearing as I boarded my plane to Bergen, via Copenhagen — the usual Long Commute — earlier flights this morning were disrupted by it but though I had a short delay it wasn’t so bad. I doubt the weather will change much in Bergen however, which is after all The City of Perpetual Rain, so no immediate prospect of a change to sunnier scenes…

A happy St. Patrick’s Day

Tuesday 17th March 2015, 6.15pm (day 1,300)

Guinness glass, 17/3/15

I do like a pint of Guinness anyway so I’m not succumbing to marketing. Well, maybe a little bit. A happy St. Paddy’s day to you. And a happy day 1,300 of the blog, too.

Arise…

Monday 16th March 2015, 2.10pm (day 1,299)

Arise the wretched, 16/3/15

Question is, am I being addressed by this sign? Or is it a warning? Either way, at least this is the last week of term.

By the canal

Sunday 15th March 2015, 4.40pm (day 1,298)

Daffodils by canal, 15/3/15

Spring continues to try to struggle through the general atmosphere of chill and damp. Taken by the Stubbing Holme lock on the canal, heavy with water thanks to the snow melt from Thursday’s unexpected fall.

Escaping from Atlantis

Saturday 14th March 2015, 7.55pm (day 1,297)

Atlantis, 14/3/15

It’s a board game, quite a good one in fact. Not an exciting weekend thus far but it doesn’t matter. I won, so hey, I rule.

Tram stop

Friday 13th March 2015, 1.10pm (day 1,296)

Tram stop, 13/3/15

So what’s in the carrying case? Inquiring minds want to know.

Climbing the fiery crag

Thursday 12th March 2015, 6.15pm (day 1,295)

Fiery crag, 12/3/15

The climber ascends the crag beside the lava falls. Or maybe it’s a strangely shaped bit of wood beside the fire  The fun thing is that you’ll never be sure.

A little something I picked up yesterday

Wednesday 11th March 2015, 7.50pm (day 1,294)

Sheep skull, 11/3/15

Always nice to have some kind of memento of a good day out. In five and a half years of tramping the fells of the Lake District on a regular basis, I have come across six intact sheep’s skulls including this one from yesterday: but none of the others had horns as spectacular as this one. I think I’ll hang this one from the front door to deter canvassers.

Walker on Long Crag, Bannisdale

Tuesday 10th March 2015, 1.10pm (day 1,293)

Walker on Long Crag, 10/3/15

Sometimes there are days — and associated weather forecasts — on which one has to admit (for the sake of general sanity and effectiveness in life) that one’s personal priorities are more important than one’s paid employment. I rearranged a few things as a result. And yes, I like being out in countryside like this, as did the gentleman pictured here, who I slowly caught up over the course of a mile or two and was able to use to give a good sense of scale. This is a desolate spot, but worth reaching. You can see more photos from the day on my other blog.

Tom at the station

Monday 9th March 2015, 7.55am (day 1,292)

Tom at station, 9/3/15

Taking shots in tolerably good morning light to pass the time waiting for my train in to Manchester, it was only later, after uploading, that I realised this chap ambling down the platform was my next-door neighbour Tom (who also works at the university). And so starts another week for both of us. But the mornings are getting lighter and this is never a bad time of year.
