Calder Holmes Park

Thursday 26th February 2015, 5.15pm (day 1,281)

Calder Holmes, 26/2/15

Spent the working day in Manchester, where the weather was lousy, but by the time I came home it had brightened up enough to make this scene worth capturing on the way back from the railway station.

Canada geese

Wednesday 25th February 2015, 3.40pm (day 1,280)

Canada geese, 25/2/15

Pictured by the canal this afternoon. The one on the right is flexing his/her muscles, or giving its wings a stretch. I don’t know if these are males or females — unlike with mallards it seems rather difficult to tell.

Tram at St Peter’s Square

Tuesday 24th February 2015, 9.00am (day 1,279)

St. Peter's Square, 24/2/15

No commentary today… I just like the composition, the colours, lines and shapes, and that I got it nice and sharp.

Outside the National Football Museum

Monday 23rd February 2015, 1.30pm (day 1,278)

Outside NFM, 23/2/15

The day of the museum field trip, heralded by my recce a few days ago. Rather than repeating a shot from inside here’s a relatively abstract view of the exterior, reflecting the clouds of a stormy day.

Running rhinoceros

Sunday 22nd February 2015, 10.35am (day 1,277)

Rhino runner, 22/2/15

As seen in the Brighton half marathon this morning, one of 12,000 runners (a number which included our Clare) but the best-dressed, in their way. I know this image is a bit technically dubious, but hey, sometimes you get only one chance to capture the sight. Now I just need to think of a way to work “Loading” into the deeper meaning somehow.

Goal celebrations, Amex stadium

Saturday 21st February 2015, 4.10pm (day 1,276)

Goal, Amex, 21/2/15
My fourth-ever trip to the Amex stadium, home of my beloved Brighton & Hove Albion since 2011, and this is the third time it has appeared on the blog. This was also the first time Joe has been able to visit. He’s declaring for the Albion, which is a brave move for a Yorkshire-born 11-year-old, so it was good to see an exciting game, and a win — 4-3 for Brighton over Birmingham City. This picture was taken just after Inigo Calderon put the Albion 2-1 up.

The West Pier, Brighton

Friday 20th February 2015, 3.50pm (day 1,275)

West pier, 20/2/15

A bit of catching up to do after spending the weekend in Brighton. The ruined West Pier is always good for a shot, probably looks as photogenic now as it ever did when it was standing. This one is taken from the extent Palace Pier (now just known as Brighton Pier).

Eye eye

Thursday 19th February 2015, 3.00pm (day 1,274)

Glass eyes, 19/2/15

Took Joe (on school holidays) to the Castle Museum in York today, a good museum full of “everyday objects”, though I guess most people don’t have these kinds of thing lying around on a shelf at home. They appeared in the context of the World War I 100th anniversary exhibition there, a time at which replacement body parts were in more demand.

Liz and her roulade

Wednesday 18th February 2015, 1.30pm (day 1,273)

Liz and roulade, 18/2/15

First day of a welcome five-day break from work. As a gift bought last year (months ago, in fact), Clare booked me on a baking course today run by the very impressive set up at Slattery’s in north Manchester (actually Bury). Got up very early, put in as hard a day’s work as I have in a long time, and came out of it with a lot of very nice cakes and ideas about how to repeat this production process. I tried to document it on camera as well without getting too much in the way or distracted from my own labours. Here Liz, one of my four fellow students, gets her roulade base out of the oven, to soon be filled with strawberries and cream. Yum.

Cinema queue

Tuesday 17th February 2015, 8.00pm (day 1,272)

Cinema queue, 17/2/15

One of these days I will have a day when there is just nothing to photograph. Today came close, I have to say. But I suppose this one is OK. (We were going to see The Imitation Game by the way.)
