People dressed as chickens

Saturday 18th April 2026, 3.20pm (day 5,350)

Ashington chicken fans, 18/4/26

Why the fans of Ashington FC turned up at today’s game (at Brighouse) dressed as chickens is a story I was told, but in some ways it is far too tragic to relate here: let us just say that it was to do with a practical joke from the past that may have gone wrong. Beyond this you do not want to know, trust me. Connection corner: this is the second time Ashington FC have made it onto tbe blog and, as the visiting team on both occasions, they were just as successful as last time — this is also the second time that, at Brighouse, there has been a picture of a grown man dressed as a chicken. What this says about me, Brighouse Town, and non-league football generally, I know not.

Halloween party prep

Friday 31st October 2025, 7.55pm (day 5,181)

Clare and V, 31/10/25

I am against the exploitation of Halloween when it comes to the selling of vast amounts of ephemeral plastic tat. C’s ‘Corpse Bride’ wedding dress was definitely getting another outing, though. Preparations are, here, still in train (pun intended).

Second photo in a row of the next person along the platform, but this was an utterly random moment that could not be resisted. Somehow this bodes well for the rest of the week. The blog’s second, and my third, trip to Berlin.

Piccadilly Station

Wednesday 21st December 2016, 12.45pm (day 1,945)

Fancy dress, Piccadilly, 21/12/16

What these ladies in fancy dress were exactly doing outside the ticket barriers at Piccadilly Station, Manchester, today I am not 100% sure, but they all seemed to be having a good time. It’s nearly Christmas after all — also the winter solstice today, in theory we should be celebrating the turn of the year, it all gets lighter from this point on. In theory…

Running rhinoceros

Sunday 22nd February 2015, 10.35am (day 1,277)

Rhino runner, 22/2/15

As seen in the Brighton half marathon this morning, one of 12,000 runners (a number which included our Clare) but the best-dressed, in their way. I know this image is a bit technically dubious, but hey, sometimes you get only one chance to capture the sight. Now I just need to think of a way to work “Loading” into the deeper meaning somehow.
