This peak towers over Hobart, at 1270 metres above sea level, and this picture is taken from the very highest point. I’d like to claim I walked up, but as you can see, it’s got tarmac all the way to the top. Anyway, the family were with me and it was by far the coolest and rainiest day of my Australian trip so far. It’s the highest point Joe has ever been, I think.
This particular one didn’t hit Point Lookout (where we reside) although one did come along later in the evening.
It’s Clare’s birthday today so I let her have final choice on today’s photo. This was taken somewhere over the UK as we came into the final half hour of my flight back into Manchester airport this morning. A mouth? Lips? Had I got this a couple of seconds earlier you would have seen an almost perfect heart (as in the card suit shape) below the line. Anyway – happy birthday dear 🙂 XXX
Another one of those days: look up, see a sky, want to move to a different city. Half an hour after this came another intense cloudburst: until a couple of months ago I’d have said ‘I’d never seen anything like it before’ but of course we have. (The building is the AQA headquarters on the Manchester campus.)
Today in Donetsk the Ukraine v France game started, but was then suspended for an hour because of heavy rain.
This June in Hebden Bridge spring started, but has since been suspended for a couple of weeks because of general crappiness, of which today saw more; including this attempt to emulate the weather in the Ukraine, except it’s nowhere near warm enough for a decent thunderstorm. It’s just rain.
Well, there’s the views and then there’s the chance to get wine 24 hours a day (and sometimes for free). Oh yeah, and the occasional decent movie. (Watched The Ides of March today. Recommended.)

Few chances to take a good photo today until the sun began to go down. When you live in a valley the sun drops earlier than elsewhere and today the mast that is otherwise a minor blemish on the view marked the point at which it dipped below the horizon. Stonehenge – mobile communications mast – same thing? (From our house on Dec 28th each year, at least.)
I probably come across as someone who disagrees with the way Britain is currently being run – which I admit. But despite it all there are still a lot of things about this place that I really like. One of them is how, after days and days of cruddy weather, you can wake up one morning, even in midwinter, and be immersed in an utterly glorious day. Such a day was today. If we thought it would last, you might even say these birds had made the wrong decision. I suspect, however, they are more sensitive than I.
By the way, another good candidate for today can be seen on my Flickr site, unused because I thought there had been too many HB scenic views and this one was more unusual. I still like it though, both are good reminders of a spectacular morning.
Air travel is not a mode of transport designed to deliver many pleasures, but there is a beauty to being above the clouds and seeing them tinged by the setting sun.
I was lacking inspiration today: it’d been pretty mundane (work at home, take the boy to school, cook dinner etc). But with the high winds today, the skies kept opening and closing up, and this was the best effort I could get. It’s a shame about the telephone wire, but it’s still quite a nice shot.
