Misty morning

Friday 17th December 2021, 10.35am (day 3,767)

Misty morning, 17/12/21

Friday, and the last day of work before Christmas. Spent at home, but it’s all done now, and the views were good in the morning.

Royce Building, early

Tuesday 7th December 2021, 8.05am (day 3,757)

Royce building, early, 7/12/21

Sometimes at this point in the year you wouldn’t even know there was such a thing as sunlight. All the way into campus by 8am and it’s only just getting light, making this a study in blue. While I was away this space at the front of the new Royce building has emerged from under the perpetual building site to acquire seats and tables, but I doubt anyone will be using them for a while.

The Nutclough cliff

Sunday 5th December 2021, 11.30am (day 3,755)

I haven’t done one of the Hebden housing for a while but it’s always there to catch the eye. So steeply do these dwellings rise from the valley bottom below that I am sure they affect the microclimate. I swear that at times I have seen rain falling on one side of our house — precipatated out by the enforced rise up the walls — but not on the other.

Grey December morning

Friday 3rd December 2021, 8.30am (day 3,753)

Littleborough morning, 3/12/21

Back home, back to the grey and gloom of a northern December, the everyday of the train journey to Manchester (here at Littleborough). It had to happen. LIke the birds speckled across this shot, let’s just live with it.

Evening on Napoleon Street

Tuesday 30th November 2021, 6.30pm (day 3,750)

On Napoleon Street, 30/11/21

I seem to have made it to the last day in St Helena without a Napoleon reference — so here’s one, a vague one anyway. Not that this shot has anything to do with the man himself, for whom, having heard the stories of his time here, I now feel a little sorry. Anyway: there will be more to come of this place. But it’s time to head home.

Out (in Jamestown)

Friday 19th November 2021, 10.15pm (day 3,739)

The Muleyard, 19/11/21

Friday night — and I’m out! In every sense of the term. So were plenty of other people who were on the flight, ten days ago. The Muleyard pub in Jamestown hosted ex-pats and locals alike, and we all celebrated being part of the land of the living.

Street food

Thursday 4th November 2021, 12.10pm (day 3,724)

Street food, 4/11/21

As being made by the guy on the “Dosa” stall in St. George’s Square, Hebden Bridge, this lunchtime. I did eat my lunch out today, although not here. Although this is a little out of focus, I like the mixture of colours and textures on this shot.

The mast, in autumn

Wednesday 3rd November 2021, 12 noon (day 3,723)

Mobile mast, autumn, 3/11/21

Hebden Bridge in autumn plumage. A nice place to be. Cold at the moment, though, but the trees look good.

The Booth Street stones

Tuesday 2nd November 2021, 8.05am (day 3,722)

Booth Street, 2/11/21

A considerably more pleasant morning’s weather than on Monday. The buildings at the end of Booth Street in Manchester pretend to be neolithic sarsen stones marking the sunrise.

Welcome to November

Monday 1st November 2021, 9.35am (day 3,721)

1st November, grim, 1/11/21

Although this has been given a certain extra layer of grim by being taken through a rain-spattered window, it is nevertheless a reasonable depiction of what the weather was like this morning I don’t know what the face of the guy walking along the roof was looking like, but I’m damn sure I wasn’t going out there today. This is one reason why I am spending most of November 2021 out of the country — but more on that over the next few days.
