Birthday sign

Wednesday 26th August 2020, 7.15pm (day 3,289)

Chimney sunset, 26/8/20

“But how shall I know the day of my birth in future years, O Holy Seer of Signs?”

“Drew, stand beside the river and look for the day on which the sun sets between the two pillars. Thus shall you know it.”

I’m 51 today.  This is now the tenth year of the blog.  And life goes on, one day at a time.

Calder valley view

Friday 19th June 2020, 8.40am (day 3,221)

Valley view, 19/6/20

I accept that we are not strictly trapped, whether at home or in the Calder valley itself: but with nothing open out there except a few shops (and by no means all), it’s still house arrest in all but name. I agree there are worse places to be stuck but this afternoon and evening I felt like my head was going to pop unless this ends soon. But there are too many people who like this situation — profit from it, even. These are the ones who will drag us all down.

Chimney pot group portrait

Tuesday 5th May 2020, 3.20pm (day 3,176)

Chimney pots, 5/5/20

I love the individuality of these chimeny pots, and the different characteristics of each of the groups. The four on the right are definitely having a conversation, the leftmost of the four turning to the others as it mutters some choice gossip.

Chimneys on the graduation marquee

Monday 9th December 2019, 10.55am (day 3,028)

Graduation tent chimneys, 9/12/19

I made it onto campus today, at least. I like this shot of the ventilation chimneys outside the tents set up to suppor this week’s graduation ceremonies; look at the top-right third of the shot and see how it is disorted by the heat coming out of the main stack.

Chimney pots (best view of the day)

Wednesday 30th January 2019, 3.25pm (day 2,715)

Chimney pots, 30/1/19

Despite spending the day in the centre of London my horizons were extremely limited as I was confined to bed all day feeling ill. I basically paid my hotel £154 to rent a sick room for the day. And it was a nice sunny day, too. Poking my camera out of the window now and again to fulfil my obligations, this was the best shot I managed. Consider it an abstract?

Enjoying the sunshine

Monday 9th April 2018, 11.50am (day 2,419)

Jackdaw on chimney, 9/4/18

Hey, the sun was shining! And it was warm! Until the evening, anyway…

Excuse to break the run of what had been 18 days since the last time there was a morning shot, on 19th March. Even if today’s was only just in the morning.

Chimney pot

Wednesday 30th March 2016, 11.55am (day 1,679)

Chimney pot, 30/3/16

I am off work, but this is in no way the most eventful Easter break of my life. Nor the least chilly. Both facts lead to today;s photo being evidence of the fire being lit in the house across the road today — at lunchtime.
