New Market, 2017

Monday 14th August 2017, 9.00am (day 2,181)

New Market, 2017, 14/8/17

Finally, a street in Manchester which seems to have rid itself of its building works. New Market has had its transformation sporadically documented on here: this was it before the building, this one during, and now above. Was it worth all the bother? The premises on the right have become a hotel in the mean time: but I wouldn’t say much else has happened.

Leeds station bar, Friday night

Friday 27th January 2017, 6.40pm (day 1,982)

Leeds station bar, 27/1/17

Clare’s doing a course in London tomorrow (Saturday) so it seemed like an opportunity to get in a weekend away. Late trip though, so we were passing through Leeds station when Friday night was becoming busy.

Vote Elrica

Wednesday 24th February 2016, 10.20am (day 1,644)

Vote Elrica, 24/2/16

It must be nearly spring. Both the crocuses and the campaign banners for this year’s Student Union elections have come out right on cue. The pigeons seem unmoved by either, however.

Dog/owner couple

Tuesday 12th January 2016, 4.40pm (day 1,601)

Dog/owner couple, 12/1/16

I know a few dog/owner couples — connoting not just the usual doggy relations but where the two actively look alike. For an example of what I mean, well, see here….

Bag on bridge

Monday 1st September 2014, 8.45am (day 1,103)

Bridge and bag, 1/9/14

It says much about the day when the most interesting photo taken all day was as I got the camera out of the bag to take a different shot, turned it on, looked at the screen as it pointed down past the plastic bag I was carrying and thought, OK, let’s do that one too. The railings look nicely symmetrical. But I’m reaching.

Outside the Harvest Festival event

Saturday 13th October 2012, 2.40pm (day 415)

Guitar, 13/10/12

Held in the building across the road from us, and we were in attendance because of our stewardship of our allotment. Not that there’s been much of a harvest this year, because of the wet weather, but still, this wasn’t a bad event, particularly when the guitarist stopped playing.

Goal celebrations at the Amex

Saturday 10th March 2012, 4.30pm (day 198)

Goal celebrations, 10/3/12

Had a few candidates for today’s pic: it was a good day all round, weather, events, result, location. But this photo most encapsulates the day. Vicente Rodriguez has just scored Brighton & Hove Albion’s first goal in a 2-0 defeat of Portsmouth, we go up to 5th in the table, I maintain my 100% record at the new Amex stadium and what with lots of other nice things happening at the moment, all seems pretty good in my world.

Garden Centre, Walsden

Sunday 5th February 2012, 11.45am (day 164)

Snowy buddhas, 5/2/12

Had to choose something which showed the white stuff but the ‘bird in snow’ pic (of which I did get a good one today) was done yesterday, and the panoramic shot of the town… too clichéd. So let’s have the Buddhas instead. Most of the snow’s gone by this evening anyway.

A very rainy day, Manchester

Friday 20th January 2012, 2.15pm (day 148)

A very rainy day, 20/1/12

Tolerable weather this morning so I left home without any equipment. On the two-mile walk back from my office to the railway station, I decided happiness would have been a small frame of wire with some synthetic material stretched over it, even if it had been red with black spots and had two comedy eyes poking up from the top. I’m still damp now, several hours later.

The parents taking shelter

Wednesday 4th January 2012, 2.55pm (day 132)

Taking shelter, 4/1/12

The weather today was as foul as it’s been on any day of this blog so far. I was on picking-up duty from school. The only place to shelter there is this gazebo-like structure. By the time I arrived it was already full of other parents. 15 minutes later Joe ambled out and then wondered why he didn’t get a treat on the way home.

Joe’s fantasy, by the way, is that his school gets flooded. Well, it’s called Riverside for a reason. If this rain keeps up he might get his wish.
