If the security bolt on our front door is still drawn, it means neither Clare, Joe nor I have left the house since we got up. If it’s still drawn at 4pm, you can guess what kind of day it has been. But I did work. Seventh picture in a row from Hebden Bridge, four of which have been taken in or from my house, although these limited horizons expand a little over the weekend.
Wettest day for months today — a pretty grim day all round. I was not the only one who’d rather have been inside. Fortunately I spent most of it working at home, and this was a photowhack — the one and only picture I took today.
Joe and I had an agreement that this Sunday was to involve the whole Lord of the Rings trilogy in one go, and so it came to pass. The holiday will involve a change of scene soon, I promise. But not today.

There are many buildings in Hebden Bridge still in some state of repair or other following the Boxing Day disaster, though to be strict about it, this place — the old Hole in the Wall pub (last pictured fulfilling that role some time in November 2012) — was being rebuilt months before that happened. Still some way to go too, if this sneaky look inside is anything to go by.

Joe was born in March 2003, meaning that very soon I will be starting on my first and, assuredly, last experience of being the father of a teenager. He looks ready for it; no idea if I am. Happened to be passing The Shay this morning, home of Halifax’s two professional sports teams, Halifax Town AFC and Halifax RLFC. Which one of the two this guy plays for I do not know, but I assume it was one or the other, what with his carrying a sports bag and all.
Incidentally, today constitutes a ‘photowhack’ — akin to a Googlewhack, in which one and only one result is obtained from a Google search, a photowhack is a day on which I get a totally acceptable Photo of the Day with the first, last and only photo I take on the day. This has happened only 2 or 3 times in all the days I have done the blog, but today was one. As soon as I got this pic I knew it would be the one.
