Turf Moor

Sunday 22nd November 2015, 12.40pm (day 1,550)

Turf Moor, 22/11/15

The Campaign for Real Football might not have approved of Sky moving the kick-off of this weekend’s big game in the Championship to a Sunday lunchtime, but they could never complain about Turf Moor, Burnley. This has got to be one of the most unreconstructed pieces of Northern England remaining in existence, surely.

The Aberdeen train arrives at Carlisle

Saturday 21st November 2015, 9.10am (day 1,549)

Carlisle station, 21/11/15

The run ends, as I finally get out somewhere, after 29 days spent only at home or in Manchester. One reason this happened was that the weather through November has been very poor and prevented me from getting up to the Lakes for a walk, but finally we had a decent day today and I managed to bag my last two Wainwrights — the story of which will be up later tonight on my other blog.  This involved a long journey round to the other side of Cumbria, hence my presence at Carlisle station early this morning (well, it’s early if you have to get to Carlisle from Yorkshire, anyway).

The winner is announced

Friday 20th November 2015, 8.25pm (day 1,548)

Bond night, 21/11/15

For the opening of Spectre at the Hebden Bridge Picture House, a gala fancy dress evening was declared (let there be joy & celebration, let jubilation reign, etc). Did the guy in his swimming trunks, or Baron Samedi from Live and Let Die win? Neither in fact. The guy in the jet pack was declared the winner.

The Puppet Shop

Thursday 19th November 2015, 6.10pm (day 1,547)

Puppet shop, 19/11/15

As pictured at the Manchester Christmas market, which opened this week. He can consider it free advertising. This makes it 28 days in a row, or a full four weeks, with only pictures of Hebden Bridge and Manchester.

The storm clears

Wednesday 18th November 2015, 3.40pm (day 1,546)

Clearing storm, 18/11/15

Clearing, yes — but it had still dumped plenty of rain on us before doing so, and it had siblings on the way. Come take some of our weather, please. We have lots to spare.

The 16.16 train home at Victoria

Tuesday 17th November 2015, 4.15pm (day 1,545)

16.16 home, 17/11/15

Depressing and slightly weird day for various reasons so I lacked both inspiration and inclination to get the camera out much. Even when I did I had the ISO setting too low for such a grey, dull day so everything turned out blurred. Even this one is slightly defiled by the presence of the Leeds United shirt. But thus went my day. At least the trains were punctual.

Light rain shower in the woods

Monday 16th November 2015, 1.55pm (day 1,544)

Rain shower, woods, 16/11/15

Worked at home today, and tried to enjoy doing so as it’s my only chance this week. The weather relented, at least for today, and it was quite sunny and pleasant. I took a walk in the woods at lunchtime for the fresh air and while I did a most delicate rain shower came down, just for half a minute or so and backlit by wan November sunlight. This shot has probably turned out a bit too messy to be quite the capture I wanted it to be, but it was my best attempt in the moment.

High water

Sunday 15th November 2015, 2.50pm (day 1,543)

High water, 15/11/15

A lot of rain overnight, and the Hebden Water was today as high as I have seen it since the floods of June/July 2012. But most — if not absolutely all — of the town was spared damage; the rain stopped just in time. Let’s hope there isn’t more before it has had time to go down a bit.

Tree gone

Saturday 14th November 2015, 11.50am (day 1,542)

Tree stump, 14/11/15

And so the shot of it at dusk exactly seven months ago (14th April) becomes the last photographic hurrah of the tree on our allotment. I said then its days were numbered. It was not wasted… it needed to come down.

Waiting for the late train

Friday 13th November 2015, 8.10am (day 1,541)

Waiting room, 13/11/15

I will spare Northern Rail further public shaming regarding their performance over the last two days…. oh what the hell, why should I. It’s been dreadful. I got a train this morning that was 35 minutes and two trains earlier than the one which should have got me to work on time and I still barely made it. Here, I and others wait out the ineptitude in the waiting room on platform 1 of Hebden Bridge station; the woman on the far left has busted the photographer.
