New office, Høgskolen i Bergen

Thursday 25th September 2014, 2.00pm (day 1,127)

HiB office, 25/9/14

Nearly three years ago now, back towards the start of this blog, in November 2011, I posted a photo of the early stages in the development of the new campus for Høgskolen i Bergen (Bergen University College). I said back then that I was indirectly working on the project of helping the staff prepare for their move into the new campus, and three years later, that’s still what I’m doing. But we’re nearly finished with our side of it — and the new campus is now a reality. Today was my first visit there: it was great to finally see it as a space-in-use. This shot is just of some new offices in the building, but I’ve been getting more abstractly creative (or creatively abstract) lately. The circles are etched into the glass, either just for effect or to stop people randomly stepping through the windows. I like the way they obscure and then reveal the mundane personal effects behind them.

Serving hatch, Manchester airport café

Wednesday 24th September 2014, 9.30am (day 1,126)

Serving hatch, 24/9/14

I’m travelling again; rest of this week I’m working in Norway. But because it’s Bergen (the City of Perpetual Rain) it was throwing it down on arrival, so here’s one from the journey. Rim-light is always worth trying to capture but my attention was also caught by the crates at the top which looked to my eye like a piano keyboard.

The front room at the pub

Sunday 21st September 2014, 4.20pm (day 1,123)

Pub front_room, 21/9/14

Fifth day in a row in which I have gone no further from my house than a quarter-mile away. Third day in five in which the picture of the day has been a pub. Such has been my life since Wednesday morning. It’ll change tomorrow. At least the sun came out today, and we had something other than all the recent gray crap.

Watching ‘Pulp Fiction’

Sunday 14th September 2014, 8.10pm (day 1,116)

Pulp Fiction, 14/9/14

Hebden Bridge’s best community asset is its superb cinema, particularly as it is still council- rather than corporate-owned. I particularly think this when it spends the evening showing a 20-year old film just because it’s a great movie and deserves — as do all movies — to be seen on a big screen, as the director intended. And the bit when Marvin’s head gets blown off is still one of the funniest and most bad-taste deaths in cinema history.

OK, this shot’s a bit fuzzy, but hey, you try getting something under these conditions…. Actually I quite like this one.

Balloon cemetery

Saturday 13th September 2014, 11.20am (day 1,115)

Burst balloons, 13/9/14

Why were there a dozen burst balloons on our bathroom floor this morning? I could tell you, but then I’d have to, well, you know.

Garden produce

Monday 25th August 2014, 1.05pm (day 1,096)

Garden produce, 25/8/14

Always nice when the garden starts paying off to some extent. Plums, apples, potatoes, picked up at the allotment on this drizzly late August afternoon.

It’s my birthday tomorrow, which means two things, first that the title of this blog is going to be three years out of date, and therefore, that I have managed to document three full years of my life as of today. Exactly one-fifteenth of it in fact. It’s another point when I might have considered stopping, but there are enough things coming up that will be interesting to document so I’m not bored enough yet. See you tomorrow.

I see no reason to explain this shot. It’s just an image I liked.

In the Tate, Liverpool

Friday 1st August 2014, 2.05pm (day 1,072)

Tate Liverpool, 1/8/14

As if there hadn’t been enough art last week, a trip to the Mondrian exhibition at the Tate in Liverpool. “Please don’t take pictures of the art,” we were told, “but you can take pictures of the view from the windows.” Well, OK then — here’s a bit of both.
