High summer, Rhyl

Thursday 12th July 2018, 4.45pm (day 2,513)

Rhyl, 12/7/18

One can expect many of the small seaside towns of Britain to look fairly desolate on, say, a wet Tuesday in February. But Rhyl, North Wales, where I happened to find myself this evening, manages to look like this in mid-July at the end of the sunniest period in a couple of decades. It’s quite an achievement.

Keeping an eye on things

Wednesday 11th July 2018, 7.45am (day 2,512)

Motorbike surveillance, 11/7/18

I assume that the camera (for some reason to do with techno-capitalist surveillance economies, etc. etc.) is keeping an eye on the fire exit, but the owner of this bike sure wants it looking after, as well….

Convention

Tuesday 10th July 2018, 3.45pm (day 2,511)

Marina birds, 10/7/18

A day of such uneventfulness that this was a photowhack — the one and only photo taken on a given day. The pigeon ambassador has come to plead with the Canada geese for aid in their ongoing war against the ducks. A jackdaw spy right front is trying to look inconspicuous, but I think the pigeon knows.

Another Manchester Monday morning

Monday 9th July 2018, 7.15am (day 2,510)

By Urbis, 9/7/18

Since the addition of a 6.32 train service from Hebden to Manchester in the mornings I have been braving the earlier start more often as it is a civilised train with leg room. Hence the recent run of 7:00 – 7:45 shots from the city centre. I like the trilogy of red/orange on this shot. The social implications, less so.

On the doorstep

Sunday 8th July 2018, 1.40pm (day 2,509)

Robin on doorstep, 8/7/18

At the lin-laws’. This rather ragged robin, on its third brood of chicks of the year apparently, has decided that the interior of the kitchen, at least, is potential foraging territory and can be tempted into the house with titbits (I did get a picture of it inside, but the lighting was no good on that one). As I’ve said before, robins will do just fine by us in the long run even if other species don’t.

Three have fun on Crummock Water

Saturday 7th July 2018, 11.25am (day 2,508)

Crummock Water, 7/7/18

Hard to find much to complain about today, photographically or otherwise. And certainly no need to take further shots of toilets.

The world’s urinals (part 2)

Friday 6th July 2018, 6.20pm (day 2,507)

Urinals, 6/7/18

All human life is here. If the first set of urinals could make it onto the blog, so can these.

Jonny, e-learning guy

Thursday 5th July 2018, 11.05am (day 2,506)

E-learning Jonny, 5/7/18
Jonny handles e-learning technology for our little band of teachers. I am happy with this portrait of him, man in his context and all that. Though aren’t desktops starting to look rather retro these days? All those wires. How 1990s.

A place to sit

Wednesday 4th July 2018, 11.40am (day 2,505)

Courtyard chair, 4/7/18

We all need something like this. A place to sit and contemplate life, the sunshine and the adjacent building works (well, this is Manchester).

“Bring me the Moon…”

Tuesday 3rd July 2018, 7.25am (day 2,504)

Crane and moon, 3/7/18

“Bring me the Moon”, ordered Gru, cackling as by the force of his will alone he controlled his minions and their new big white contraption.
