The Nutclough mill-pond

Wednesday 14th January 2015, 8.45am (day 1,238)

Millpond, 14/1/15

A little snow this morning, enough to provide the sort of wintry scene I was hoping for yesterday, but not enough to last through the day. Took myself up into the wood before work to see what I could capture, and took this one before the posse of ducks drifted in front of the fallen branches and spoiled the reflections.

The last walk of the Christmas break

Sunday 4th January 2015, 11.45am (day 1,228)

Dog walking, 4/1/15

At least since Christmas Day it’s been a pleasant break with lots of chances to get outdoors. It’s no coincidence that there’ve been plenty of landscape shots on here in the last 10 days, and here’s another one. The whole house goes back to work and/or school tomorrow: which I guess is the case for many of us. H0pe you had a good one.

Autumn colours, Nutclough Woods

Saturday 1st November 2014, 2.35pm (day 1,164)

Autumn woods, 1/11/14

A weekend at home, with no work, and there haven’t been many of those lately so let’s make the most of it. Though stormier by the evening much of today remained mild and bright, and with colours like these sometimes you may as well just go with the cliched shot.

Sunny summer morning, Nutclough woods

Friday 19th July 2013, 8.55am (day 694)

Nutclough woods, 19/7/13

9th of the last 10 days spent in Hebden Bridge. When the weather is as beautiful as this however, it doesn’t matter. This is one of my neighbours: spiritualists may read in what they will to the captured aura here, but I do note the picture was taken right into the sun.

Bluebells and insects

Friday 31st May 2013, 2.30pm (day 645)

Bluebells and insects, 31/5/13

Three days of photos back home in HB and they’ve all had a floral theme; which is certainly pervasive as a theme, round here at the moment. There is more going on in this picture than you might at first think, however: this was taken into a cloud of insects, several of which are lit up in the sunlight to the top right of the shot.

Nutclough woods

Saturday 8th September 2012, 3.15pm (day 380)

Nutclough woods, 8/9/12

A thoroughly glorious day, and a weekend too. The whole town was out enjoying it today. Plenty of other candidate photos today but this one serves to encapsulate the atmosphere. Do we forgive it the summer just gone, the ‘wettest for 100 years’ apparently? Well… let’s not go that far yet. If it stays sunny until mid-October, say, we might do.

The Nutclough stream, later

Tuesday 24th July 2012, 4.40pm (day 334)

Nutclough stream, 24/7/12

On a pleasant summer’s day, here is the Nutclough stream, looking as if butter wouldn’t melt in its flow. (It probably wouldn’t.) This is the stream that turned into a torrent on 9th July and took out a couple of houses two hundred yards downstream. More before and after comparison pictures are on the Facebook album, as linked.

Mölkky in the woods

Tuesday 29th May 2012, 4.30pm (day 278)

Mölkky, 29-5-12

Even the keenest follower of this blog is unlikely to have lost a great deal of sleep over the fate of the mölkky (Finnish skittles) set last seen on Christmas Day. But here it is, providing an excuse to involve Joe, Clare and our neighbour Keith in some enjoyable physical activity out in the woods across the road, on another glorious evening. Better than just hanging round the pub anyway. (Which we did anyway, afterwards…. too nice to stay in.)

Joe, Nutclough Woods

Saturday 28th January 2012, 2.20pm (day 156)

Joe, Nutclough Woods, 28/1/12

This blog is as much about my personal development as a photographer as anything else. Today I had a one-to-one development session with Sarah of Zebra Photography, a professional from Hebden Bridge; the session was a Christmas present (thanks Carol). I could say a great deal about what I learned, but suffice it to say that a considerable number of photos that I took today, for various reasons, I could not have taken the day before. Don’t expect them all to be like this from this point on – I need a new camera first – but I’m proud and a bit surprised by what I managed today. Hard to know which to choose – other highlights are on the Flickr site. Thanks, Sarah.

Leprechaun Village, Nutclough Woods

Sunday 2nd October 2011, 4.40pm (day 38)

Leprechaun village, 2/10/11

Growing out of a tree trunk, in the woods over the road, spotted while walking off a big roast dinner. Well, OK, it’s probably not a real leprechaun village, but who knows for sure.

Mind you, come to think of it, I don’t live in Ireland.
