The cobbles on Sackville Street

Wednesday 10th June 2020, 11.55am (day 3,212)

Sackville Street cobbles, 10/6/20

The cobbles that surface Sackville Street in Hebden Bridge are classic, but whether they are practical, ask the people that live there. I was just passing. Having reached the ‘bored stupid’ stage of lockdown myself, I wonder whether the painting in evidence here is recent, done by a local householder who has been on furlough for the last three months. But I guess the work looks older than that.

A night out on the cobbles

Saturday 22nd December 2018, 12.45am (day 2,676)

St George's Square, 22/12/18

It’s been a while since a post-midnight shot made it onto the blog; my Saturday was otherwise entertaining enough but rather than display more football, here is Clare coming home from our Friday night out (also undepicted). A night out on the cobbles, rather than the tiles? Either way, Christmas is upon us, more or less.

On the edge of the woods

Monday 20th August 2018, 10.30am (day 2,552)

Out of the woods, 20//8/18

No commentary on this shot other than to say I like it for somehow symbolising the road that out of darkness leads up into the light. Or something like that.

The weather’s changed

Sunday 12th April 2015, 2.50pm (day 1,326)

Umbrella photographer, 12/4/15

Well, it’s been a damn good run on the weather — a week in California and then 6 days at home with barely a real cloud to be seen. But today…. it changed. I guess this photographer thought there was mileage in photos of wet cobbles, too.

Cobbles, Hebden Bridge

Saturday 25th October 2014, 11.25am (day 1,157)

Cobbles, 25/10/14

Second, and last, day of a two-day gap between coming back from one trip and heading off on another. It must be significant that both the photos in the gap have been of the ground of my home town.

Cat readying to jump

Monday 1st July 2013, 9.50am (day 676)

Cat about to jump, 1/7/13

Here we are at the halfway point of 2013, more or less. I spent the first six months of it almost entirely away from home but right now I am in the middle of a comparatively long period here. Which means, as I have already posted 244 photos of Hebden Bridge on this blog (today’s becoming #245), finding new subjects is becoming more of a challenge. I will keep trying, however. On days where I do little but sit at home working it is a matter of spotting the occasional opportunity, like this one: the cat is just slightly out-of-focus, which is a shame, but otherwise I like this shot. It made its jump a split-second after I fired the shutter.
