Passengers arriving, Schiphol

Monday 28th September 2015, 3.25pm (day 1,495)

Schiphol arrivals, 28/9/15

Although I have been doing plenty of work trips recently they have all been in the UK, and it’s been six months since I was actually at Manchester airport heading off somewhere for work. Today I changed planes in Schiphol, one of those hub airports that almost everyone who flies probably ends up at some point or another, and what a joyful place it is…. I was sitting behind this fence watching the arriving passengers get off the plane we were about to get on, and I kind of like this shot just for the effect, how the fence and the light make the woman look sort of ghostly.

Turbines

Sunday 27th September 2015, 11.30am (day 1,494)

Turbines and clouds, 27/9/15

Mist in Yorkshire this morning, clear skies in Lancashire, with this photo taken almost right on the border between the two, up on the Long Causeway, above Todmorden. I know I did wind turbines 12 days ago, but it’s impossible to resist returning to the theme.

Upper Woburn Street

Saturday 26th September 2015, 10.40am (day 1,493)

Upper Woburn St, 26/9/15

London is a vast city, too big to get a handle on as a whole, but one can find bits of it to identify with, become familiar with. Bloomsbury is definitely my bit. This street scene is taken just to one side of Tavistock Square, which has appeared on several occasions previously. The building is the HQ of the British Medical Association (BMA), one of the more powerful professional associations in the land. A beautiful morning, as many of them have been lately.

I know what you’re looking at

Friday 25th September 2015, 3.50pm (day 1,492)

Bubble car, 25/9/15

From King Street, Manchester yesterday to the King’s Road, London. A street in which the glamorous come to shop and be seen, but their thunder was stolen temporarily this afternoon by this bubble car which got a lot of attention. Very few cars have been the subject of photos on this blog but I’ll make an exception here. The pic doesn’t really show the dog sitting in the back seat (a great additional touch), but I like it because of the sign in the background above the rather bemused guy on the pavement.

King Street, Manchester

Thursday 24th September 2015, 9.35am (day 1,491)

King Street, 24/9/15

Sometimes there’s plenty of good light in the day and things to see, but just no time to stop and take photographs (at least, not ones that are any good). Today was one of those days, so here’s me not making the most of it. I suppose this one isn’t bad, but lampposts never help a shot.

Eye test

Wednesday 23rd September 2015, 2.45pm (day 1,490)

Eye test, 23/9/15

Well, I can still see, anyway. But can I see better than the viewfinder of my camera? Only I and my optometrist know for sure.

Rain shower, Hebden Bridge station

Tuesday 22nd September 2015, 8.35am (day 1,489)

Rain shower, HB station, 22/9/15

A familiar scene, given added interest by the drizzle caught in the sun. Worth getting a little wet for. The 8:34 to York departs and my train to Manchester will be along in a few minutes.

Some of my new students

Monday 21st September 2015, 1.15pm (day 1,488)

New students, 21/9/15

The campus suddenly gets a hundred times busier. But this is what I’m here to do. So ignoring the fact that it was raining today, which it seems to do on this arrival day every year, it was great to meet 30 or so of the people with whom I am going to share the next 11 months or so.

Charity shop

Sunday 20th September 2015, 12.05pm (day 1,487)

Charity shop, 20/9/15

Look at someone’s home space as opposed to a designed environment like a chain store, and everything will just feel a lot more natural in the former, because the space has grown naturally. Sometimes I feel this is also true of charity shops like this one, which is why they make more interesting subjects. The dog is just a temporary visitor, but does his/her bit too.

On the way to the match

Saturday 19th September 2015, 2.40pm (day 1,486)

Underpass, 19/9/15

The city of Wolverhampton makes its debut on the blog, and indeed in my life (with my never having been here before in my 46 and a bit years) but this shot could really be anywhere. Brighton and Wolves fans make their way to the pleasingly central Molineux to watch what turned out to be a 0-0 draw that probably we should have won, but I’m biased, as of course is everyone else.
