Crocuses

Thursday 5th March 2015, 9.45am (day 1,288)

Crocuses, 5/3/15

Sometimes these photos are planned. When Joe (birthday yesterday) was born the ground was strewn with crocuses (croci?) like these and my mum-in-law predicted the flowers would become a symbol of this event in our lives. She was right. I passed these growing plants in the Sackville Street gardens in Manchester yesterday (home of the Alan Turing statue) but there was no time to get a shot. Repeating the walk to work today though I spent a few minutes there to see what I could do to mark this sign of spring.

Accordianist

Wednesday 4th March 2015, 3.35pm (day 1,287)

Accordionist, 4/3/15

There he was, playing the theme from The Godfather. And happy with it. I make this only the second busker to appear on the blog.

Perhaps I could have got a photo to mark Joe’s birthday, 12 years old today. Never mind, let’s mark it anyway.

Teaching online (late)

Tuesday 3rd March 2015, 8.15pm (day 1,286)

Online class, 3/3/15

Spent the whole day doing this stuff, without leaving the house, so you weren’t getting a photo that does any more for your lives than giving you a chance to inspect the accoutrements that surround my home workspace.

Monday 2nd March 2015, 10.10am (day 1,285)

Snowy day, 2/3/15

March. That’s spring, right? Isn’t it? Not here, not this year, not a bit of it.

Sunday 1st March 2015, 6.15pm (day 1,284)

Scaffolding, 1/3/15

Standing outside the pub taking this and friend Sandra said, ‘so, are you going to call that one ‘Scaffolding’ then?’.

OK, why not.

War memorial, St. Mark’s church

Saturday 28th February 2015, 11.15am (day 1,283)

War memorial, 28/2/15

There’s no deeper message, I just liked the image, helped by the random red flower in the background (poppy by proxy?). The memorial is the one in the grounds of St Mark’s Church, Kennington Oval, in London.

Platform 9, Leeds station

Friday 27th February 2015, 8.45am (day 1,282)

Platform 9, Leeds, 27/2/15

Pictured as I made my way down to London for an afternoon’s work today. The last time — for now — that this journey can be done on a publicly-owned train, a service which was so good that it raised millions and millions for the treasury, which is why the morons that run this country have sold it off as of this weekend.

Calder Holmes Park

Thursday 26th February 2015, 5.15pm (day 1,281)

Calder Holmes, 26/2/15

Spent the working day in Manchester, where the weather was lousy, but by the time I came home it had brightened up enough to make this scene worth capturing on the way back from the railway station.

Canada geese

Wednesday 25th February 2015, 3.40pm (day 1,280)

Canada geese, 25/2/15

Pictured by the canal this afternoon. The one on the right is flexing his/her muscles, or giving its wings a stretch. I don’t know if these are males or females — unlike with mallards it seems rather difficult to tell.

Tram at St Peter’s Square

Tuesday 24th February 2015, 9.00am (day 1,279)

St. Peter's Square, 24/2/15

No commentary today… I just like the composition, the colours, lines and shapes, and that I got it nice and sharp.
