Place of work

Wednesday 27th May 2020, 1.05pm (day 3,198)

Rocking chair, 27/5/20

Even under conditions of normality I was due an unexciting week at home, whatever the weather. It’s Marking Season.

But a day spent sat in an attic, on a rocking chair covered in a white shawl, while the sun beats down outside? Bugger me. Didn’t middle age come on fast.

Teaching online (late)

Tuesday 3rd March 2015, 8.15pm (day 1,286)

Online class, 3/3/15

Spent the whole day doing this stuff, without leaving the house, so you weren’t getting a photo that does any more for your lives than giving you a chance to inspect the accoutrements that surround my home workspace.

The old fireplace in the attic

Sunday 5th January 2014, 7.00pm (day 864)

Old fireplace, 5/1/14

More Victorian architecture. But because I had to start work again today after my Christmas break, I never left the house, and because I live in a piece of it, Victorian architecture is what you get.

However, there is some additional relevance to the picture, which is that after about a week of heroic house clearance and trips to the tip, sorry, ‘Household Waste Recycling Centre’, this old fireplace is actually visible again for the first time in about two years. Not to mention the floor of this room. Worth documenting, then, in my opinion….

Working in the attic

Sunday 28th August 2011, 9.50am (day 3)

Attic, 28/8/11

I like my house. I wouldn’t have been here more than 10 years, otherwise. Although it’s on a main road, and bits of it have a tendency to fall off now and again, I like the fact that it’s not some identikit Barratt Homes bollocks. I like the way the sun shines into the attic in the morning and turns it golden. I like that I can work here and not have to trug into Manchester every day. There will be many days over the next year where the defining feature is that I spent most of the time here. But I hope that will never be a problem, as it has not been for the last decade.
