Green

Thursday 5th June 2014, 3.55pm (day 1,015)

Green, 5/6/14

Remember, the greener the landscape, the more it rains. West Yorkshire has become very green the last couple of weeks.

Waiting to talk to people

Wednesday 4th June 2014, 12.35pm (day 1,014)

Seminar, 4/6/14

Not every photo that makes it up here is picked for artistic reasons (some would say that few of them are). The point of the choices is also to try to epitomise a day somehow. And I spent most of today in rooms, talking to people, while cruddy drizzle came down outside.

On the Manchester Museum roof

Tuesday 3rd June 2014, 10.15am (day 1,013)

Museum roof, 3/6/14

Are there bees up on the museum roof (as viewed this morning from my meeting in the adjacent Arthur Lewis Building)? Or have the tropical frogs escaped? What is the builder carrying in the orange swag bag? Inquiring minds want to know.

The Chinese arch loses its scaffolding

Monday 2nd June 2014, 9.30am (day 1,012)

Chinese arch, 2/6/14

I’m in familiar territory for a period of weeks, and the light isn’t exactly sparkling at the moment, most periods being cloudy. I have to find interest where I pass it randomly, like today. Since the last appearance of Manchester’s Chinese arch on the blog, on a foul day last autumn, it has been swathed in scaffolding, being refurbished, but this started to come off today. They said the refurbishment would be finished in ‘May 2014’ — so I guess they only just missed it.

Saturday DIY

Angle grinding, 31/5/14

Could have gone with another crappily lit and probably out-of-focus picture of the gig we went to tonight (third in a week), but enough of that theme. Here’s some angle grinding instead. At least one of the bands we saw tonight was less musical than this by the way.

String section

Friday 30th May 2014, 10.55pm (day 1,009)

String section, 30/5/14

Second gig in a week, and there’ll be another one tomorrow. Unlike last Sunday’s arena event this was in the more intimate surroundings of the Trades Club, Hebden Bridge. And more mellow. Though not necessarily better.

Swan, cleaning itself

Thursday 29th May 2014, 2.25pm (day 1,008)

Swan, cleaning, 29/5/14

Oh, more waterfowl. Don’t care though — I’m very proud of this shot. The leg looks amazing. And if I had a neck that flexible I am sure that lots of opportunities would become available.

The Muscovy duck finds a companion

Wednesday 28th May 2014, 4.10pm (day 1,007)

Muscovy duck, 28/5/14

It is over two years since this creature set up home in Hebden Bridge marina, first appearing on the blog in February 2012. As I have observed before, it is a long way from its natural home. I saw it standing outside the entrance to the tourist information office this afternoon, and thought at first that it was after food or something, but looking at this shot I wonder whether it might not just have been finding company in its reflection. This is the Muscovy duck’s fourth appearance on the blog (the remaining unlinked one is here) — few people have been on it as often.

A spot to read

Tuesday 27th May 2014, 2.50pm (day 1,006)

Afternoon reading, 27/5/14

Well, one can read just about wherever one likes, so yes, that is a pint also close at hand. Seasoned Drew followers will probably recognise the location of this shot.
