Magdalene Green, Dundee

Thursday 7th May 2015, 7.00pm (day 1,351)

Magdalene green, 7/5/15

I’m not facing head-on the General Election that is taking place today. In any case nothing will be resolved until tomorrow morning at the very earliest, and probably several days after that if the opinion polls are to be believed. I left home very early this morning because of work commitments in Dundee, Scotland, a city I have never visited before, and this shot of the evening light there (plus the small plane — does it look like a blotch, or does it add to the shot?) makes this only the second Scottish location, after Edinburgh (April last year), to feature on this blog. It may be that the Scottish Nationalists hold the balance of power after today’s voting, so this could be an appropriate location to spend the next few days.

St Thomas Centre, Ardwick

Wednesday 6th May 2015, 12.50pm (day 1,350)

Gravestones, 6/5/15

The St Thomas’ Centre, where I did some work today, is a converted church, and its front yard is paved with these grave markers. Which would have made an excellent photo had it not been hurling down with rain whenever I was outside: the wettest day in months, actually. So, bad photo alert. Sorry.

Crossing paths

Tuesday 5th May 2015, 8.00am (day 1,349)

Crossed paths, 5/5/15

Another trip to London. This was taken at Waterloo station — the busiest railway station in Britain by number of passengers — these two were just part of the throng, but I like the way they’ve been captured in relative isolation.

A good wall, Leeds

Monday 4th May 2015, 5.55pm (day 1,348)

Whitelocks wall 4/5/15

That’s the nice thing about this commitment to record the everyday. Sometimes your basic wall will just turn up and surprise you.

The peloton

Sunday 3rd May 2015, 2.55pm (day 1,347)

Peloton, 3/5/15

Following the perceived success of last year’s passing of the Tour de France, everyone decided it would be a good idea to run another professional cycle race along our street — only this time going up the hill rather than down it. The end result was much the same — a lot of guys on bikes came past very quickly and 30 seconds after they had done so, all the spectators went home.

Phil (last game of the season)

Saturday 2nd May 2015, 12.10pm (day 1,346)

Phil, Silly hat, 2/5/15

Last game of the 2014-15 Championship season. Most Brighton fans will follow this with, “thank God”. It’s not been one of our better ones. But we have avoided relegation, anyway, and today marked this with our annual ‘Flying Squad’ gathering at the last game, which this year was in Middlesbrough. A good atmosphere, a reasonable game, but 0-0, sums up our season. The Flying Squad are so named because many of them come in from abroad, including Phil here, who lives in Canada.

Sheep, Ill Crag and Great End

Friday 1st May 2015, 1.50pm (day 1,345)

Sheep, Ill Crag, Great End, 1/1/15

“OK, I might have a bit of a silly tail. But I live in a cooler place than you.”

And yes, that’s snow in May.

Walking home

Thursday 30th April 2015, 4.10pm (day 1,344)

Canal, Manchester, 30/4/15

I was sat in the same room, a single meeting, for 7 hours today (bar toilet breaks) so you were lucky that a scene on the way back to the station distracted me.

Drying the chilli harvest

Wednesday 29th April 2015, 3,40pm (day 1,343)

Chilli harvest, 29/4/15

A day working at home. In need of inspiration (for many aspects of my life), let me document the next stage in the cultivation of our habañero plants, first seen on here back in August. A portion of the small but still potent fruit of these has now been strung up to dry; the other half has been turned into a lovely, fresh, spicy paste. Yum. Hopefully more will grow from the same plants, in time.

Blackbird at the station

Tuesday 28th April 2015, 7.45am (day 1,342)

Blackbird and fence, 28/4/15

I went all the way to London and back today for no immediately obvious reason thanks to someone cancelling a meeting at the last minute. Basically I did a 10-hour round trip to have lunch in the Parcel Yard at King’s Cross. So here’s none of that. Instead, let’s feature this blackbird who was looking suspiciously at me at Hebden Bridge station this morning.
