Chilli flower

Monday 16th December 2019, 1.15pm (day 3,035)

Chilli flower, 16/12/19

Enough of this greyness. Let there be blues! And greens! And a flower! All happily grabbing a dose of afternoon sunshine on the comfort of our window sill. Destined to be habaneros, if all grows as it should.

This year’s habaneros

Sunday 16th October 2016, 1.50pm (day 1,879)

Habaneros, 16/10/16

Look what’s been ripening away beautifully on my bedroom window sill while I was away in Prague. This house is now self-sufficient in habaneros. You want some wicked fresh chili peppers, this is the place to come.

Chilli plant (emergency shot)

Thursday 27th August 2015, 5.45pm (day 1,463)

Chilli, 27/8/15

Committing — as I have for four years now, of course — to presenting a photo every day is fine when I’m out and about but not always easy to fulfill when I just hang around the house, and today was made even trickier by spending the second half of it in bed, feeling ill. (No, it’s not related to drinking too much on my birthday yesterday.) The evening sun caught our pet chilli well; and that was about the only photo opportunity I got today, I’m afraid.

Drying the chilli harvest

Wednesday 29th April 2015, 3,40pm (day 1,343)

Chilli harvest, 29/4/15

A day working at home. In need of inspiration (for many aspects of my life), let me document the next stage in the cultivation of our habaƱero plants, first seen on here back in August. A portion of the small but still potent fruit of these has now been strung up to dry; the other half has been turned into a lovely, fresh, spicy paste. Yum. Hopefully more will grow from the same plants, in time.

Chilli!

Monday 22nd December 2014, 11.40am (day 1,215)

Habanero, 22/12/14

This little beauty fruited while we were in London, and has several siblings on the way. How far they have come, on my bedroom window sill, since they appeared on this blog as babies at the end of August.

Proud parent as I am, I’m still going to eat it, you know. But not whole. Habaneros are very hot.

Baby chillies

Saturday 30th August 2014, 1.40pm (day 1,101)

Baby habaneros, 30/8/14

This house plant is being carefully tended at present. With luck and attention these little buds should each become chilli peppers strong enough to have its seeds come with warnings regarding the desirability of industrial strength rubber gloves when handling. Bring them on.
