Road works outside our house

Friday 4th September 2015, 10.05am (day 1,471)

Road works, 4/9/15

And yet more construction, this time in Hebden Bridge and pictured from the bathroom window of our house. These road works have been protracted — the picture of the happy drill was taken around their starting point. This has been a very Hebden-bound period of the blog.

This was also a photowhack — the one and only photo taken on a particular day.

The central Manchester building site

Thursday 3rd September 2015, 10.30am (day 1,470)

Kent Street, 3/9/15

The whole of Manchester city centre is currently a building site, has been for months, and is scheduled to be so for many more months yet. But it seems to be spreading beyond just the new tramline (the ostensible reason for the chaos) and into the associated demolition of various other locations — the building being torn down here was the one on the right on this shot, for example. Who knows what the final plan will be.

Outside the Railway

Wednesday 2nd September 2015, 5.10pm (day 1,469)

Outside Railway, 2/9/15

Overexposed it may be, but in a burst of sudden sunlight today I knew this bunch of people would be today’s picture. No offense, everyone.

September sunset

Tuesday 1st September 2015, 8.00pm (day 1,468)

September cloudscape, 1/9/15

Allowing for the fact that the first one of all, August 2011, was depicted only partially, September 2015 will be the fiftieth calendar month of this blog. How many times in those fifty months has this view (or ones like it) saved an otherwise drab day?

Cash machine (and Stevie Wonder)

Monday 31st August 2015, 7.55pm (day 1,467)

Cash machine, 31/8/15

Why Stevie Wonder? No idea. Why not? More of a wonder was finding a cash machine in Hebden Bridge with cash still in it, at the fag-end of a three-day Bank Holiday weekend.

First harvest from the garden

Sunday 30th August 2015, 11.50am (day 1,466)

First harvest, 30/8/15

Always a pleasing event of the year. Not many blackberries around yet, but they will come. Plums… for us will, I hope, be just as much in glut as they were two years ago. Believe me, if you live in Hebden Bridge and want cheap plums, give us a couple of weeks, we will be overflowing.

Board games festival

Saturday 29th August 2015, 4.55pm (day 1,465)

Meepfest, 29/8/15

Anyone who has documented every day of their lives online for more than four years cannot but be at least part-geek, so things like festivals of board games appeal to me, and I wasn’t even the member of the family who initiated this trip to “MeepFest” in Leeds today. (No, it wasn’t Joe either.) Great setting, a church in Leeds now converted to an arts centre. Good fun gaming, too.

Boiler works

Friday 28th August 2015, 10.00am (day 1,464)

Boiler works, 28/8/15

Second day in a row spent almost entirely at home, partly because I’m unwell and also because we were having a new central heating boiler installed. The old one is visible on the front steps, with its red back. Why the scaffolding? I am not sure, ask the engineer. Perhaps just for the variety.

Chilli plant (emergency shot)

Thursday 27th August 2015, 5.45pm (day 1,463)

Chilli, 27/8/15

Committing — as I have for four years now, of course — to presenting a photo every day is fine when I’m out and about but not always easy to fulfill when I just hang around the house, and today was made even trickier by spending the second half of it in bed, feeling ill. (No, it’s not related to drinking too much on my birthday yesterday.) The evening sun caught our pet chilli well; and that was about the only photo opportunity I got today, I’m afraid.

Scooting to work

Wednesday 26th August 2015, 9.35am (day 1,462)

Scooting, 26/8/15

Welcome to the fifth year of this blog. There is a certain level of enthusiasm in the subject of this shot that I like. Perhaps it is symbolic…. Anyway, happy birthday to me. Welcome to ‘Being 46’.
