The Amex Stadium, Brighton

Sunday 6th November 2011, 4.15pm (day 73)

Amex stadium, 6/11/11

The story behind this place is such a long and difficult one to tell – North & Hodson’s book Build a Bonfire will give you the first part, doubtless someone will write the second instalment one day. Suffice it to say that as a Brighton fan making my inaugural visit here this afternoon, when I first entered it, I cried. Just a little bit.

Today’s result: Brighton & Hove Albion 2, Barnsley 0. We won’t mention the failure of Southern rail to get me and a few thousand other fans back to Brighton because of a ‘staff shortage’. I mean, it’s not like they knew we were coming.

The morning after

Sunday 30th October 2011, 11.00am (day 66)

Clare and Caroline, 30/10/11_low-res

Nice to come downstairs and find two beautiful women in the lounge dressed in their bedwear. After that the rest of the day was taken care of.

Halloween Burlesque Party

Saturday 29th October 2011, 8.00pm (day 65)

Halloween burlesque, 29/10/11_low-res

Let’s edit out the text that originally accompanied this photo, written last night when I was too inebriated to be lucid and pithy and all those other things I’d like these texts to be. Let me instead just reiterate what a good night it was. The audience were asked not to take photos of the performance and stick them online – so I should respect that – though it’s a shame, as I got some good ones including of the wife making her own performance debut. But the audience were also a sight worth recording. Happy Halloween – a couple of days early, it is true.

Clare dressing for our night out

Saturday 22nd October 2011, 4.00pm (day 58)

Clare dressing, 22/10/11

It’s early in the day to be posting I know, but I don’t want to take the camera to the gig in Leeds, and do you think I’d get a better shot anyway?

Moscow tomorrow. I will try to keep up with the blog but might not be able to post daily for a few days. Rest assured I will catch up when I get back.

Our neighbour and his motorcycle

Saturday 15th October 2011, 2.25pm (day 51)

Richard and bike, 15/10/11

I’ve lived in this house for over 10 years now and all that time the house across the road has been inhabited by this gentleman. And every Saturday morning he is out there working on his bike and listening to his ’60s music. And then on Sunday morning we are usually roused briefly from sleep at around 7am as it farts into life across the road and he heads off for whatever rally or off-road session he is visiting that weekend. He seems pretty happy. I’m ashamed to say I don’t know his name.

Postscript: It’s Richard.

ICT in Education conference, Stockport

Friday 14th October 2011, 8.45am (day 50)

ICT in Education conference, 14/10/11res

Because of it’s ridiculously early start time I turned up to this opening presentation late, and have no idea what is happening here. But what the hell, the shot of this guy with the impressive data projection on his face is interesting enough, and from what I saw of the rest of the presentation, you didn’t really need to know what was going on.

The ‘outtakes’ have been published to mark this, the 50th day of the blog. See the ‘best of the rest’ page – a permalink to which can be found in the menu at the top.

Joe at the dentist

Tuesday 11th October 2011, 4.20pm (day 47)

Joe at dentist, 11/10/11

This looks like major surgery, except it’s the most routine check-up. Which is, I guess, why I like this picture – professional competence emerging in the every day. If it wasn’t there, we might not notice for quite a while…. but eventually, we would.

Joe in bookshop, Haworth

Saturday 8th October 2011, 2.10pm (day 44)

Joe, Haworth bookshop, 8/10/11

Joe shows his opinion of being asked to hang out in a bookshop. Though I think he did leave with some Dr Who novelization and a ‘Horrible Histories’ paperback so it wasn’t all bad news for him.

I like Haworth, it teeters very close to the edge of being completely twee, but there are interesting things to be found in the shops and at least it isn’t some corporate hellhole. Bizarrely, we were doing Christmas shopping here: yes, I know it’s two and a half months early…

Guyda (and digital Dante)

Thursday 6th October 2011, 5.15pm (day 42)

Guyda presenting at the seminar, 6/10/11

On a day spent almost entirely in my office, looking out at grey and rainy skies, there weren’t many candidates for today’s shot and I nearly put something utterly dull (like my office wall) just to encapsulate the feeling. But then my friend and colleague Guyda came along to one of our research seminars to present about her using ICTs to teach medieval Italian literature, and both her and her beautiful books brought some interest into the day.

Me in Waterside Gym, Hebden Bridge

Wednesday 5th October 2011, 9.20am (day 41)

Me in the gym, 5/10/11

An utterly uneventful day, spent working at home – dull light, nothing particularly to see. Struggled for inspiration photo-wise, so for the first time in the 41 days I’ve been doing this (blimey, is that all?), you can have a self-portrait. Apologies. There won’t be many more.
