Cow’s head

Saturday 14th February 2015, 12.20pm (day 1,269)

Cow's head, 14/2/15

As captured in Leeds’ Meanwood Valley Urban Farm, which is why I could get close enough to this beast, for long enough, to be able to get the shot. But semi-tame animals can still look good, if I had eyelashes like that I’d pull big style.

The tree outside Caroline’s house

Friday 13th February 2015, 10.20pm (day 1,268)

Caroline's tree, 13/2/15

Night out in Leeds to celebrate the birthday of our friend Caroline, will she let me tell you which number birthday it was? Ends in a zero, anyway. This tree sits outside her house, snapped it late on. I like the windows of the houses at the bottom which give it some added interest.

Sit…!

Sunday 8th February 2015, 10.05am (day 1,263)

Sit, 8/2/15

Two days in a row of pictures taken by the side of the canal. This dog barked in a kind of elderly fashion at me as I walked past this morning. Honour was satisfied, without troubling either side, but it still woke up the owner.

The Nutclough mill-pond

Wednesday 14th January 2015, 8.45am (day 1,238)

Millpond, 14/1/15

A little snow this morning, enough to provide the sort of wintry scene I was hoping for yesterday, but not enough to last through the day. Took myself up into the wood before work to see what I could capture, and took this one before the posse of ducks drifted in front of the fallen branches and spoiled the reflections.

Mallard couple

Tuesday 6th January 2015, 3.55pm (day 1,230)

Mallard couple, 6/1/15

As a contrast to the fighting poultry of a few days ago, here, a much more serene couple. Little to see today, a second day in a row spent mostly working at home with grey light — declining daylight and a longish zoom account for this shot’s lack of focus.

Duck fight

Saturday 3rd January 2015, 3.20pm (day 1,227)

Ducks fighting, 3/1/15

The muscovy ducks on the marina were getting aggressive this afternoon. Two began fighting, I assume over the third, all-white one (a female?) visible in the background of this shot, looking on while the battle she has provoked rages in her honour. Couldn’t alter the camera settings quickly enough to have a chance of capturing the shot with any sharpness, considering how fast they were moving in the low light. But what gets me about it is their placid-looking smiley faces, which here persist even when a rival is pecking on one’s back.

Swan-a-swimming

Wednesday 31st December 2014, 2.55pm (day 1,224)

Swan, 31/12/14

And so, the last post of 2014. The last three New Year’s Eves I have posted from some party or other and I did go to one tonight, but this is a nicer shot than I managed there. Appropriate too — it’s the 7th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me seven swans-a-swimming I believe…  Happy New Year.

Chilli!

Monday 22nd December 2014, 11.40am (day 1,215)

Habanero, 22/12/14

This little beauty fruited while we were in London, and has several siblings on the way. How far they have come, on my bedroom window sill, since they appeared on this blog as babies at the end of August.

Proud parent as I am, I’m still going to eat it, you know. But not whole. Habaneros are very hot.

Foraging

Monday 15th December 2014, 12.40pm (day 1,208)

Squirrel foraging, 15/12/14

Day trip down South for my annual appearance at the Rose Bruford College exam board. A year ago tomorrow I snapped one of Lamorbey Park’s colony of parakeets, here is another resident of that green space. I did have a carefully composed urban scene taken outside King’s Cross as well, but I’ve done a few of those lately, so let’s go with the cute foraging rodent.

Mallard

Wednesday 3rd December 2014, 12.50pm (day 1,196)

Mallard, 3/12/14

Pictured on the Hebden Water this afternoon. A sunny day but a damn cold one, certainly the coldest so far in 2014.
