Chilli!

Monday 22nd December 2014, 11.40am (day 1,215)

Habanero, 22/12/14

This little beauty fruited while we were in London, and has several siblings on the way. How far they have come, on my bedroom window sill, since they appeared on this blog as babies at the end of August.

Proud parent as I am, I’m still going to eat it, you know. But not whole. Habaneros are very hot.

Foraging

Monday 15th December 2014, 12.40pm (day 1,208)

Squirrel foraging, 15/12/14

Day trip down South for my annual appearance at the Rose Bruford College exam board. A year ago tomorrow I snapped one of Lamorbey Park’s colony of parakeets, here is another resident of that green space. I did have a carefully composed urban scene taken outside King’s Cross as well, but I’ve done a few of those lately, so let’s go with the cute foraging rodent.

Mallard

Wednesday 3rd December 2014, 12.50pm (day 1,196)

Mallard, 3/12/14

Pictured on the Hebden Water this afternoon. A sunny day but a damn cold one, certainly the coldest so far in 2014.

Memorial

Wednesday 19th November 2014, 2.40pm (day 1,182)

Memorial flowers, 19/11/14

Nearly four weeks ago now (it was the evening that I returned from Dubrovnik) a pedestrian was run over and killed in the centre of Hebden Bridge. These flowers appeared at the spot within a couple of days, and remain there still, wilted and fading but still constituting a memorial to the dead man.

Fallen leaf, 24/10/14

Back home, just for two days. This was a photowhack — the one and only picture taken today.

Cheap (Croatian) cat shot

Wednesday 22nd October 2014, 9.30am (day 1,154)

Croatian cat, 22/10/14

I call most cat shots ‘cheap’ because they are just such photogenic creatures, you don’t really have to make a lot of effort to get a decent shot of them. They are beautiful and willing, like all good models. Today in Dubrovnik the weather was far, far worse than it has been in the last few days, cold and stormy, but this little cutie, pictured in the grounds of my hotel, meant I didn’t have to worry over much about the lack of decent light and also the fact that, y’know, I kind of had to work for most of the day.

Taking a drink

Saturday 18th October 2014, 2.15pm (day 1,150)

Taking a drink, 18/10/14

In recent months the Muscovy duck which has featured several times on this blog has been joined by four more, all said to have escaped (or been deliberately released) from a duck farm nearby — which is probably where the ‘original’ one came from as well, as this species is not native to Europe. However, if there are both boys and girls in the flock now, who knows, perhaps we could start a whole new Yorkshire colony. This is one of the newer ones, taking a drink on a Saturday afternoon.

The cows know

The cows know, 15/10/14

I think number 5 did it. She’s trying to look inconspicuous, but I’m telling you, she’s the one.

The last apple

Sunday 5th October 2014, 2.35pm (day 1,137)

Last apple, 5/10/14

It’s still noticeably not autumn, at least, in terms of what weather we would normally expect. However, most of the produce is now gone from the garden. The leeks are still growing, and visible, out of focus, in the foreground of this shot; but the only other remaining thing is this one apple, not yet windblown and hiding in its own little corner, hoping we will not notice and pick it.
