Waiting for the meeting

Monday 11th September 2023, 10.45am (day 4,400)

In Caffe Nero, 11/9/23

Time to kill before the 11:00 meeting in the city centre. Tea needed to be drunk. Monochrome needed to be used to disguise the fact that this shot is basically out of focus, but losing the colour means I can go for the rustic 1960s bistro effect. Which I’m sure is how Caffe Nero wants to be seen (note: other corporate coffee bar providers are available).

On the city walls, Chester

Monday 28th August 2023, 12.35pm (day 4,386)

Eastgate clock, 28/8/23

The city of Chester has one of two remaining complete sets of city walls in the UK (the other is Derry). Sitting out and trying to have a quiet lunchtime beer under the famous Eastgate clock was not a plan I entertained for more than a few minutes, but at least I got a photo — which turned out much better in black and white. The first portrait orientation for a long while, too: almost all of the shots on here are now landscape, but this is an exception.

Anarchy

Saturday 19th August 2023, 12.50pm (day 4,377)

No parking, 19/8/23

It was still there when I passed it again in the early evening, too. Shocking, what is the world coming to, etc etc.

Stan has a smoke

Monday 17th July 2023, 4.25pm (day 4,344)

Stan, 17/7/23

After eleven different places in eleven days it’s time to spend some time at home again. I’m still not back to work though: that can wait another week or so. Stan generally agrees with this approach to life, I feel.

On the steps

Friday 7th July 2023, 12.55pm (day 4,334)

On the steps, 7/7/23

I don’t yet know what I’m trying to say with this picture — it may be just a random gesture on her part. Nor am I projecting, being quite happy today. I like it anyway.

Paddy in the alley

Friday 23rd June 2023, 5.20pm (day 4,320)

Paddy in alley, 23/6/23

Another less-than-exciting week ends with a photograph of similar sort. Life is scheduled to liven up in July but in the meantime, here we still are, Hebden Bridge on a quiet Friday post-work afternoon. Going monochrome helps the interest level a little, perhaps.

The foyer

Friday 19th May 2023, 3.10pm (day 4,285)

EWB foyer, 19/5/23

I said on Tuesday that campus was busying up. I withdraw that assessment after today’s visit, on which I reckoned I might have been the only member of uni staff in the whole Ellen Wilkinson Building that turned up today. And I only really did that for the step count. I have worked (occasionally) in the EWB for coming up to 18 years now, and it does not ever get much more visually interesting than this.

Dancing breaks out

Wednesday 10th May 2023, 7.15pm (day 4,276)

Dancing in Railway, 10/5/23

For those drinkers that prefer to start earlier, 7.15pm is getting towards the hazy stage of the evening. Whatever party was going on in the other room, at this point it spilled out into our part of the pub, at least for a short time.

At Discovery Point

Sunday 7th May 2023, 12.40pm (day 4,273)

Discovery Point, 7/5/23

I am still finding the light input of my new camera somewhat difficult to set accurately. Most of the time I get it to acceptable levels that reflect the environment but other times it’s way up or down, with unpredictable results. But ‘unpredictable’ can also mean ‘interesting’ and ‘not what was expected’ — as with here. This room, showing the introductory movie at the Discovery Point centre in Dundee, was quite dark when I took this one. It worked, though.

Sunday motorcycle club

Sunday 16th April 2023, 3.30pm (day 4,252)

Motorcycle club, HB, 16/4/23

Everyone grows up, even Hell’s Angels. Every Sunday there will be some motorcycle club or other relaxing in the square. This lot had better gear than most.
