Except for the guys on the screen last Sunday, people have been absent from the blog for many days now, so let’s rectify that today to make us remember that humanity has not yet quite given up the ghost. Would this have been better, or worse, had the weather been poor? I suspect worse. At least this guy’s approach to boosting his vitamin D levels — the chair, the can of Carlsberg — is still available to us.
At the end of all this, how long before we are able to feel comfortable with each other again, physically close? Even the dogs are getting the message.
On the 10th October 1991 I turned up in Yorkshire for what was originally planned to be a stay of a few weeks while I ‘got myself sorted out’. Twenty-eight years later, I am still living here: the last eighteen of those in Hebden Bridge. So let’s make today’s pic a home town shot. This is commercialism again, but of a far less predatory sort than yesterday’s. In the matter of boots, defer to the boot man (Bakunin — paraphrased). I hear the olives on the next stall along are pretty good too.
A Saturday night out in Manchester and, to start it, a return to the Food & Drink Festival also depicted (more abstractly) yesterday. On both days there were plenty of pleasant things to consume. Manchester makes its five-in-a-row: only the second time I have managed this, the first being in March 2014.

This will be the last day for a while I see the Manchester campus in any form of peaceful state. The erection of this marquee today is just one sign that from the next time I’m there, on Tuesday, there will be people. Thousands upon thousands of them.
I wonder whether now I have hit 50 that I am going to start seeing any aspect of the world differently. It won’t happen overnight of course, but maybe changes in my worldview will become more apparent. Here’s an example. I certainly understand this guy’s attitude rather more than I might have in the past.
No commentary to make, really — just a well-lit scene that I liked, as we all went our respective ways on this Saturday afternoon. I will note that today was the penultimate day of my 40s however…
The substitutes and manager of Easington Sports FC look rather morose here but then again they are coming to the end of a rather limp 3-0 defeat at the ground of their hosts, Bishops’ Cleeve FC. I like this shot because of the pallette, the rustic hay bales in the background and finally because of their semi-formal, portrait-style arrangement. The ground has only been there since 2002, but there’s something timeless about it.
On an uneventful, work-free Friday ungraced by stellar photo opportunities, this seemed to sum things up the best.
