Road resurfacing

Tuesday 19th May 2020, 5.20pm (day 3,190)

Resurfacing the road, 19/5/20

OK, this picture isn’t high art but at least it’s something different, as the council decide to take advantage of the lack of traffic and resurface the road outside our house. I’m glad there is still a semblance of working life out there but I’d quite like to go to work myself, on occasional days (did I really say that? It’s true though). This is only the fourth picture to feature people who are not family members since the end of March.

The track inspectors

Monday 5th September 2016, 9.35am (day 1,838)

Track inspection, 5/9/16

I have developed this theory that, if I just acquire a hi-vis uniform, I will be able to go anywhere, do anything. I will be able to walk past “Authorised Personnel Only” signs with impunity, throw breaker switches, close public highways. I just need to swathe myself in fluorescent orange or green and it will all be possible.

Waverley station roof

Wednesday 9th April 2014, 1.55pm (day 958)

Waverley station, 9/4/14

Edinburgh, like Hebden Bridge, is a place of vertical contrasts, and it is easy enough to look down on the vast glass roof of Waverley station from above. The shot also symbolises the fact that this was the last of this trip to Edinburgh; I wish I could go there more often.

Working on the Summer House

Thursday 31st May 2012, 4.10pm (day 280)

Summer house, 31/5/12

“Ere, mate. Dontcha think it’s ironic, like, that the day we put up this ‘summer house’ in the city centre, it’s the first rainy day in a fortnight?”

“Yeh, it’s all part of the comedy of life innit. Or maybe because it’s a Bank Holiday weekend. Anyway, sod that. I want to know why Jack ever thought that those shorts were a good idea.”

I’m off to Norway tomorrow – most likely there won’t be posts on here for a few days but you’ll get a big lump of them all at once when I get back. Including one of a fjord. If it kills me, there’ll be one of a fjord this time.
