Pennines in mist

Sunday 21st October 2012, 9.15am (day 423)

Pennines in mist, 21/10/12

Flew over to Moscow again today, where I’m working all week. My intention was to post a totally gratuitous photo of Germany, where I changed planes, purely to get an 8th country onto this blog. But though I got some decent shots of Frankfurt today, where it was a lovely sunny day, this shot of the Pennine hills just outside Manchester as we took off this morning has to be the winner. Germany can wait. I’ll be passing back through on Friday so we’ll see if an equally gratuitous shot makes it then. Meantime, the mist.

Clare’s eye

Saturday 20th October 2012, 2.45pm (day 422)

Clare's eye, 20/10/12

Been a while since the wife featured: 21st August in fact. One thing about her is that she does have this cracking pair of eyes on her, thanks to the green-and-orange colouring. See for yourself.

Incidentally I got another picture today of her eye in which I, the photographer, was clearly reflected in her contact lens – clever, but it didn’t make her iris look as good as this one. So I’ll choose this one. She’ll thank me for it… I hope. (And yes, I know I did this theme once before with Joe, but again, it was worth revisiting.)

Joe, the God of Lego

Friday 19th October 2012, 5.40pm (day 421)

Joe and Lego, 19/10/12

Man, it’s been a tiring week. Marked its conclusion by taking the family out to the theatre in Manchester tonight, to mark Clare’s birthday (the specific date is next week). They had been in the city earlier, shopping, and here Joe displays some of his purchases. I like this shot because of the focus, the reflection in the table, and his big doe eyes.

By the way I now have 100 followers of this blog. Thanks to you all!

Rochdale Canal, early morning

Thursday 18th October 2012, 7.10am (day 420)

Canal, early morning, 18/10/12

You’ve seen versions of this scene before. But no harm in showing it again.

Rain over the Vale of Lorton

Wednesday 17th October 2012, 12 noon (day 419)

Rain over Lorton, 17/10/12

Was almost obliged to go on a walk today, if I still intended to finish my project by the time I go away next year (in case you weren’t aware of this one, see my other ‘214 Wainwrights’ blog). It was tougher than expected today, partly because the forecast let me down – promising decent weather after noon, this was the reality; the last blue sky I saw all day.

Rook on the old bridge

Tuesday 16th October 2012, 3.20pm (day 418)

Rook, 16/10/12

Very little opportunity to take photos of anything today, due to spending almost all of it sat at home working. Just as well this rather butch-looking bird was perched on the old bridge in town when I went to pick up Joe from school, therefore.

The ‘Development of Educational Technology’ class

Monday 15th October 2012, 1.50pm (day 417)

DET class, 15/10/12

Seeing as I seemed to spend most of the day teaching in one way or another it seems appropriate to use a picture of a class to encapsulate the day.

The three students in the foreground are Chinese and Korean, the book they are looking at is in Arabic. I could give away my pedagogical secrets and tell you why, but then I’d have to kill you. (Or you could just enroll on my degree, of course.)

Mist on the hill

Sunday 14th October 2012, 8.30am (day 416)

Mist on the hill, 14/10/12

A somewhat boring day – had to work, for the third Sunday in a row – but a beautiful one, particularly in the morning. Hard to capture the combination of blue skies, a sharp chill in the air and mist clinging to the sides of the valley first thing, but this is my best shot.

Outside the Harvest Festival event

Saturday 13th October 2012, 2.40pm (day 415)

Guitar, 13/10/12

Held in the building across the road from us, and we were in attendance because of our stewardship of our allotment. Not that there’s been much of a harvest this year, because of the wet weather, but still, this wasn’t a bad event, particularly when the guitarist stopped playing.

Rosie, in the Learning Commons

Friday 12th October 2012, 2.25pm (day 414)

Rosie, 12/10/12

Last time you saw the University of Manchester’s new “Learning Commons” building it was still being finished, back in early July. It’s now open and myself and some of my students got a tour of it today: off this lady here (pictured through a window separating a corridor from one of the private study spaces). And it’s impressive, too. Even if I didn’t help design it 🙂
