Mural by Red Chilli

Wednesday 21st June 2023, 12.40pm (day 4,318)

Red Chilli mural, 21/6/23

Another case of Someone Else’s Art feeding this blog. I assume this face does also belong to a real person; I wonder how models do actually feel about coming (literally) face-to-face with themselves now and again. I put her to the side of this shot because I also like the conjunction with the stuff in the restaurant window, and the pedestrian timed it well too. All seen on Grosvenor Street not far from my office on campus this lunchtime.

Solstice marker

Tuesday 20th June 2023, 8.05pm (day 4,317)

Homer, solstice, 20/6/23

“O seer of signs…. How shall I know the coming of Midsummer’s Day as the years go by?”

“When Holy Homer sees the last light of the day, my son. And only then.”

OK, it’s a day early, but we’re basically there. The nights start drawing in after tomorrow.

Not just an idea…

Monday 19th June 2023, 9.20am (day 4,316)

Billboard posting, 19/6/23

I reckon doing this kind of thing well takes a certain skill. Like many of us this guy’s doubtless hoping they’ll never train a robot to do his job; or replace this board with a digital version, that sucks up that little more of the world’s energy supplies.

While we’re on that topic, note for Absolut (other vodkas are available) — making bottles out of recyclable cardboard sounds neat, but isn’t glass recyclable too? Or maybe I’m missing something.

A Bradford welcome

Sunday 18th June 2023, 9.30am (day 4,315)

Welcome Home Sexy, 18/6/23

Apparently a while back someone graffitied ‘Welcome Home Sexy’ on the approaches to Bradford Interchange railway station, to cheer up their partner, spouse, mate, or whatever. This has now become A Thing. A stylised version of the original message is still there beside the tracks, but not content with that, we get it by the station entrance too, next to the heroically decrepit retail establishment. But hey, why not, at least it isn’t another “Buy Corporate!” advertisement.

Rain!

Saturday 17th June 2023, 12.55pm (day 4,314)

Rain on scaffold, 17/6/23

Normal rain too, that is, not a thunderstorm (although we did have one of those later in the evening). Can I be the first to come out with that hardy perennial phrase — ‘That’s the summer over’.

Friday bell

Friday 16th June 2023, 2.30pm (day 4,313)

Smiley bell, 16/6/23

Friday afternoon, and it’s been a six-day working week. But the next time this bell dings, I can go home. And I am the one responsible for dinging it this time round. I’ll wait until the appointed time, though.

Scaffolders on Eiffel Street

Thursday 15th June 2023, 1.20pm (day 4,312)

Scaffolders, 15/6/23

I apologise, as much to myself as anyone else, for the uneventfulness of life at this time. The scaffolders are busy in Hebden however; there were already at least four major scaffolding installations visible from home (including next door), and this fifth went up during the day. A growth industry it seems.

Response to local weather conditions

Wednesday 14th June 2023, 4.40pm (day 4,311)

Sunbathing with bike, 14/6/23

This seems a pretty sensible response to the recent weather. The general pose sums up how I feel about it, anyway.

Lunch in the courtyard

Tuesday 13th June 2023, 12.35pm (day 4,310)

EWB courtyard, 13/6/23

Too nice a day to have lunch sat inside, and a few minutes after I made this decision this group joined me in the courtyard. This space has appeared on here several times before, and as it’s still not exactly easy to work out how to get in it, this is as many people as I’ve ever seen using it at one time.

Rose and awning

Monday 12th June 2023, 1.50pm (day 4,309)

Rose and awning, 12/6/23

A versatile flower, the rose is used for decoration, food, flavour, giving to people to indicate affection etc. Those thorns are damn prickly though. The one that has taken over one corner of our garden is an irritant rather than a decoration. This isn’t it, however; this one is to be found in Hebden Bridge town centre.
