Making a phone call

Monday 3rd December 2012, 1.30pm (day 466)

Making a phone call, 3/12/12

Lucky for me that she was, because like most Mondays, this was a difficult to day to find a) inspiration b) the time to actually take a photo.

Mind you, she might look sort of serene here, but whatever she was on the phone to someone about was really pissing her off. I think that was why she was sat out here on the stairwell, instead of making the call in an office somewhere.

Still Life with Tea and Apple

Tuesday 20th November 2012, 10.40am (day 453)

Tea and Apple, 20/11/12

A rather uninspiring day which comes as part of a long run of rather uninspiring days. Today I did my best with some very limited raw material. But, ah, the joys of cropping. Crop away, I say.

Hall display, Stubbings School

Monday 19th November 2012, 5.45pm (day 452)

Seacole display, 19/11/12

Stubbings is a school for 5-8 year olds, so this is an interesting question to ask – particularly where there is no presumption that anyone already knows the answer. When it defines ‘critical thinking’ in the dictionary, it says ‘see this’.

Incidentally this is Mary Seacole’s second appearance on this blog: the building photographed at Birmingham City University earlier this year bore her name. Quite a woman it seems.

Head of Steam, Huddersfield

Saturday 17th November 2012, 1.45pm (day 450)

Head of Steam, 17/11/12

Was here for the football, Huddersfield Town v Brighton – the mighty (well, reasonably so) Seagulls winning 2-1. Did not get a decent photo of the game, but this rather over-the-top piece of pub decor did grab the attention earlier on.

It’s day 450 of the blog today, so I have updated the Best of the Rest page with some more good shots that didn’t quite make the one-a-day cut.

Mirka’s unnecessarily large pot plant

Monday 12th November 2012, 10.10am (obviously) (day 445)

Mirka's pot plant, 12/11/12

Temporarily exiled to another office this morning while the lock on my door was being repaired, it did cross my mind that my colleague Mirka has a bowl of remarkably extensive foliage on her desk.

Trax game in the pub

Sunday 11th November 2012, 3.35pm (day 444)

Trax, 11/11/12

You know this game? You have to create loops of one colour or the other to win? Well, never mind. It passed the time during the usual Sunday afternoon in the pub.

Incidentally, a numerological curiosity. Day 444 of this blog falls on 11/11, and as of today I have 111 followers. This doesn’t mean anything, it just appeals to a certain sense of neatness.

Cancelled

Friday 9th November 2012, 1.20pm (day 442)

Cancelled. 9/11/12

Screw technical or aesthetic quality, if there was ever a photo which encapsulated a day this is it – I was supposed to be on this 13.35 flight to Copenhagen but as you can see it was cancelled, and seven hours later – eight-and-a-half hours after I arrived – I’m still here in Bergen airport. What a jævla drittsekk of a day. (Translate it if you want.)

Burning down

Friday 2nd November 2012, 6.30pm (day 435)

Candle, 2/11/12

Pictured in the Hole in the Wall pub, at the stub end of another week. Is it the end of term yet?

In the Christie Bistro

Thursday 1st November 2012, 1.30pm (day 434)

Christie Bistro, 1/11/12

Haven’t been feeling very inspired lately but a few moments of good light in a grey day, a lot of cropping and going monochrome raise the interest here. This is one of the University’s more laid-back corners, a café located in what, about 100 years ago, was the main campus library.

Ink Landscape

Tuesday 30th October 2012, 12.55pm (day 432)

Ink landscape, 30/10/12

Tattoo, stage 2. It’s still not finished. It’ll be worth the pain, that’s what I keep telling myself.
