Andrea in his office

Tuesday 30th April 2019, 12.05pm (day 2,805)

Andrea in his office, 30/4/19

I don’t often do work colleagues in their natural habitat but Andrea (who is Italian, so presents his name like that) made a fetching scene in front of a blackboard filled with stuff that I don’t really understand. I was a learner for an hour today.

Murder scene?

Monday 29th April 2019, 4.45pm (day 2,804)

Toys in dentist, 29/4/19

While waiting my turn in the dentist’s this afternoon I noticed this little tableau set up in one of the display cabinets. So many questions…. If the mad guy in the white coat was attacking the woman in green with a hypodermic (or possibly a huge rivet), and she took him out in self-defence…. what did she do with the murder weapon? Hang on…. I think I see it… !

Weeping willow, by the old bridge

Sunday 28th April 2019, 11.00am (day 2,803)

Willow and bridge, 28/4/19

Another day for spring foliage to fill up the bandwidth. 2,803 days in and there are still some corners of the home town worth depicting. The bridge has been here since 1510, or thereabouts, and seems good for a while yet. Whether the same is true of the photographer, who knows…?

Four heads

Saturday 27th April 2019, 12.10pm (day 2,802)

Four heads, 27/4/19

An abstract, really: while sitting in Preston waiting out a train connection. It was good to be inside on a cold, windy day, sharp contrast with the balm of last weekend. There are four heads here, even if initial viewing might suggest only three.

Waiting for the 8:32

Friday 26th April 2019, 8.30am (day 2,801)

HB station, 26/4/19

Plans to minimise my time in Manchester while on sabbatical have not been successful this week (or next). The weather turned during the day, as well, and it was quite cool and rainy by the evening. A pleasant morning on HB station though: just the latest in a number of occasions where the arrangement of fellow passengers on the platform has interested me.

A ceiling of blossom

Thursday 25th April 2019, 10.25am (day 2,800)

Blossom ceiling, 25/4/19

The blossom came out in force over the hot Easter weekend…. and a good chunk of it came down again during the last couple of less clement days. This ephemerality is why people like the Japanese get all sentimental about it, I guess.

Early arrival in Manchester

Wednesday 24th April 2019, 7.10am (day 2,799)

Early train, 24/4/19

Blog-wise, it’s two months since I pulled duty on a 6.32 train out of Hebden Bridge — arrives Manchester about 7.10, like this morning, if it’s feeling energetic. The bloke in yellow is the owner of the fold-up bike on the other side of the shot: he looks the least keen of all of them, but then again he has his onward transport sorted.

Bookstall, Oxford Road

Tuesday 23rd April 2019, 1.50pm (day 2,798)

Bookstall, Oxford Road, 23/4/19

Back to work properly, but still a relatively balmy vibe over Manchester thanks to continuing good weather (it’s on the change, though), and a general lack of people of the academic persuasion. Why black and white today? Why not? I haven’t posted in monochrome for a while.

Board gaming

Monday 22nd April 2019, 5.40pm (day 2,797)

Halifax board games, 22/4/19

Something to do on a Bank Holiday Monday. Thanks to all that Australia stuff, the Easter break had a tenuous and extended beginning this year — but today was its definite end. Back to work tomorrow.

Inside the tulip

Sunday 21st April 2019, 12 noon (day 2,796)

Tulip parts, 21/4/19

This tulip is open and ready for business. Come and get it with those hairy stamens right now baby. Or so to speak.
