Joe plots his next move

Thursday 30th November 2017, 7.55pm (day 2,289)

Joe playing Harbor, 30/11/17

Evening entertainment at the end of a very cold day. Joe contemplates whether he should exchange three cucumbers for a pallet of fish in the costermongers’, or possibly whether he should felch his mortgage and cast down his pie to prevent his opponents accumulating so many nickels that he will no longer be able to buy any rabbits. At least, I think those were the rules. My haziness on these matters is probably why I finished third (out of three).

Raise, from White Side

Wednesday 29th November 2017, 1.15pm (day 2,288)

Raise from White Side, 29/11/17

I had a book to read for work. I read it today. Did I need to be in an office to do this? No, I didn’t.

There are actually two other people (who had the same idea as me) visible on this photo. While away a pleasant couple of minutes seeing if you can locate them.

First one in

Monday 27th November 2017, 6.40am (day 2,286)

Early shop window, 27/11/17

Second Monday morning in a row where I have to haul myself up before dawn and onto the 06:59 train. Not my favoured way to start the week. I certainly felt like the first person up in town this morning; though I guess this suggests that either the proprietor of ‘Brocante’ beat me to it, or they just left the lights on all night.

Working on Sunday

Sunday 26th November 2017, 11.20am (day 2,285)

Track workers, 26/11/17

These guys were not the only ones working on this Sunday — though at least I combined my bout of labour with a trip to York for pleasant social reasons. But that journey contained no photos that I liked, so we’ll go with this one, captured a few minutes before getting on the train to said destination.

Carrie

Saturday 25th November 2017, 6.15pm (day 2,284)

Carrie, 25/11/17

I don’t care if it is a cheat to take pictures off a cinema screen — this is a great movie, and was the major event of the day. “They’re all going to laugh at you….” Carrie is just the ultimate revenge fantasy, isn’t it?

Red sky at night…

Friday 24th November 2017, 3.50pm (day 2,283)

Red sky, 24/11/17

…or at ten-to-four on a Friday afternoon, anyway. But not “shepherds’ delight” because an hour or so after this it started snowing. Unphotographed, but the first of the winter, round here.

Engineering campus development

Thursday 23rd November 2017, 2.40pm (day 2,282)

Engineering campus, 23/11/17

OK, I know, I know, Manchester, building site…. But, at least, a well-lit one. With piles of red things that look like some big kid’s construction set. In the end, that’s what this is anyway.

My colleagues

Wednesday 22nd November 2017, 2.05pm (day 2,281)

Susan, Gary, Mike, 22/11/17I’ve worked with all four of these people (Susan, Gary, Mike — and, on screen, Marilena) for quite a while. Which is why we probably all look so excited at the prospect of a two-hour meeting with each other…. Only kidding.

Entry to the Etihad

Tuesday 21st November 2017, 7.20pm (day 2,280)

Etihad ramp, 21/11/17

For a birthday present for father and nephew (both Manchester City fans) I got them tickets for tonight’s UEFA Champions League game versus Feyenoord at the Etihad stadium, and went along myself.

It was a stellar exhibition of football genius and entertainment, as befits the most exciting sports competition anywhere in the universe, played by Gods who walk the earth in human form. At least, that was the media narrative. Personally I thought it was a rather tedious game, played out by a bunch of uninterested guys who knew it was essentially meaningless and that they’d get their £250,000 each this week whatever the result. And you couldn’t even get a beer at half-time.

Full-on CTS (Cattle Truck Status)

Monday 20th November 2017, 7.20am (day 2,279)

Cattle truck, 20/11/17

Monday morning, and it’s raining, and you’ve just bought a weekly ticket for the first time in ages (meaning you’re going into Manchester every day this week) and the 06:59 turns up as a two-carriage piece of obsolete shit as it always does, only today the previous service through was cancelled so by Littleborough it’s already achieved full CTS (Cattle Truck Status) and we haven’t even had the Rochdale passengers on yet. Happy Mondays.
