What is a summer, but a return to autumn? An end, but a start?

What is a summer, but a return to autumn? An end, but a start?
[Haiku warning]

It was in 1990 that I first heard the band Primal Scream, when my then-flatmate Dave played me their eponymous second album. In the two and a half decades since they have released some complete shite, it has to be said, but also many moments of brilliance (like the whole album XTRMNTR for a start). And in those 26 years despite never giving up on them and them refusing to turn into their own tribute band (like so many of their peers) I have never seen them live.
Until today 🙂

The first of what should be three days’ photos from Leeds. Today was spent there working, at least until 5pm… the next two will not be work. This is the kind of shot that only really works if one gets the symmetry exactly right, so what do you think?

More glorious weather, though in fact that is not so unusual at this time of year. I have evidence, too: pictures from September 16th 2015 (not 15th, admittedly: glorious though….); 16/9/14 (beautiful!); 15/9/12 (great, and almost the first really fine day of a lousy summer)….
Not that I’m complaining. May there be more, particularly this Saturday, which I have to spend mostly standing in a field.

Second shot in a row of one or more of my commuting colleagues. Possibly he is lamenting the loss of his sunglasses — though I suspect more likely just to be tired…
More distinctive, though still trivial, is the fact that after years of passing through this place on a regular basis, this is the first of these blog posts to be definitively taken in Rochdale; we were stopped taking on passengers at that station. Place 176 on the official list, anyway.

As you can tell from this blog I don’t go into Manchester every weekday. But if I did I think I would try a project of taking a version of this view every time, whatever the weather or light or arrangement of passengers. It helps that it’s a quite picturesque station but I think it would be interesting anyway. Sometimes you see the same people, sometimes not, like a river that’s always the same and always different each time.

I took the shot, then fished it out. It lumbered around drunkenly on the table for a few minutes, drying itself off in the sunshine, then flew off and presumably will lead a long and waspy life. Therefore, no insects were harmed in the making of this picture.

A weekend at home, but the weather is still pleasant and the good evening light allows for photo opportunities even with the mundane sights around the place.

Nice light, but not a very exciting picture — then again it was not a very exciting day. I did quite enough over the last 48 hours thank you very much. Anyway, happy Friday — hope you have a good weekend.
