On campus

Friday 23rd September 2016, 10.05am (day 1,856)

On campus, 22/9/16

Most of the university campuses featured on this blog — and there have been a good many over the last five and a bit years, at least 20 I make it — have plenty of nice, green space. But the one on which I spend the most time, Manchester, has hardly any, it is the most urbanised, built-up campus I can think of. So it’s nice to picture some of its very rare green space on another very pleasant day. Even if this shot isn’t ‘green’ in the slightest. (It looked better in monochrome.)

Chimney pots

Saturday 10th September 2016, 6.10pm (day 1,843)

Chimney pots, 10/9/16

A weekend at home, but the weather is still pleasant and the good evening light allows for photo opportunities even with the mundane sights around the place.

In Nutclough Woods

Saturday 13th August 2016, 2.15pm (day 1,815)

Nutclough Woods, 13/8/16

I feel I’ve shown what I wanted to show about this tree, so that gratifies me.

At the beer festival

Saturday 6th August 2016, 3.05pm (day 1,808)

At beer festival, 6/8/16

A relaxing day, spent enjoying pleasant weather, which has by no means always been the case in this relatively dull summer. No complaints today though. Taken at the Blue Pig beer festival.

In the park

Tuesday 5th July 2016, 5.30pm (day 1,776)

In the park, 5/7/16

Perhaps this shot would have been better with either one group or the other, but I like the split-screen nature of it with both. A nice evening in Hebden Bridge, much more amenable weather than in Manchester for most of the day, which is where I was.

A gaggle

Wednesday 15th June 2016, 1.40pm (day 1,756)

Gaggle, 15/6/16

When are there enough geese for a gaggle? Will four do? When does a gaggle become a flock? Pictured on the canal at Hebden Bridge station this afternoon.

Booth Street, Manchester

Friday 27th May 2016, 10.25am (day 1,737)

Booth Street, 27/5/16

A later ramble through Manchester city centre than yesterday. This shot could be sharper but I still like it, particularly as, when you look closely, you see there are two pairs of hands there, texting away.

Sunday afternoon snack

Sunday 24th April 2016, 3.20pm (day 1,704)

Sat on wall, 24/4/16

Although a chillier day today than it has been, I think we can still say that spring is here. Not sure whether these two were feeding themselves, or the ducks in the river below their feet (and cropped out of shot), but either way the title still applies. Why the black and white? Why not? Sometimes the colours just don’t work out so well.

Joe and his Great-Gran

Saturday 19th March 2016, 3.15pm (day 1,668)

Joe’s great-grandmother — Clare’s gran, Alma Draper — is 90 today; happy birthday to her. That’s a lot of life. We attended the celebrations in Morecambe today. This picture shows them both standing up, incidentally — Joe is getting much taller, and Gran, well, she’s never been particularly tall.

Working on the train to Glasgow

Thursday 10th March 2016, 5.05pm (day 1,659)

Train to Glasgow, 10/3/16

I’m examining a doctoral thesis in Glasgow tomorrow and it’s too far to do as a day trip so I came up tonight. This shot was snapped during a spell of good light on the train, somewhere around Carlisle. The Mac shows that I’m still just about working at this point but it wasn’t to last much longer — then again, you try assimilating Michel Foucault’s The Archaeology of Knowledge past 5pm on a Thursday. But then again I did have wine (as seen bottom left).
