Flower bed, Italian restaurant

Friday 21st June 2013, 8.00pm (day 666)

Flower in restaurant, 21/6/13

Numerologically interesting day, possibly even apocryphal, or we could just see it as two-thirds of the way to 1,000 consecutive daily pictures. It’s Friday night and I never feel like cooking so went out for a pizza, and snapped this very well-coloured bloom while waiting for the Napoli to turn up.

Tara, second appearance

Thursday 20th June 2013, 5.35pm (day 665)

Tara, 20/6/13

Nice to have a friend appear on the blog. Tara’s second appearance as it happens; the first being back in April 2012. This shot is taken in the same place, same company, as that one. Life goes on and many things are seen but sometimes you come back to the same places, the same companions.

Stallholder, Hebden Bridge market

Wednesday 19th June 2013, 9.00am (day 664)

Hebden Bridge market, 19/6/13

Seven days in a row at home now — I mean without leaving at all, even for work — and no nights away planned until well into July. This is unusual for me. I need to look around, reconnect.

Vimto memorial, Sackville Street building

Tuesday 18th June 2013, 1.40pm (day 663)

Vimto memorial, 18/6/13

I went into Manchester today, but don’t tell anyone — officially I don’t go back to work there until early September. But there were reasons to go in today, which went beyond the desire to have the first Manchester photo on the blog since day 504 of the blog, 10th January, 159 days ago. This sculpture sits outside the university’s monumental Sackville Street building and pays homage to the local non-alcoholic beverage, Vimto, an anagram of, well, you can work it out.

Coming home, Leeds station

Sunday 16th June 2013, 10.35am (day 661)

Clare's legs, 16/6/13

I took another picture I quite liked this morning, at Leeds station; but it was kinda brown, and the last two have also been very brown. So here is some colour, not to mention shape, on the blog courtesy of the wife’s legs.

Palace House Road, Hebden Bridge

Saturday 15th June 2013, 12.40pm (day 660)

Palace House Road, 15/6/13

I realised today while having 45 minutes to wander around town that in 12 years of living in Hebden Bridge I had never walked up a particular street. So, I did. It looks like this: if one wants it to. (This image is further cropped from the first version after I realised there was a satellite dish on it!)

Get used to the scenery anyway: with only a very few exceptions (six or so), I’m staying in the home town every day for the next five and a half weeks. It hasn’t happened much lately…

Seagull nest

Friday 14th June 2013, 3.10pm (day 659)

Seagull nest, 14/6/13

Last picture of this Norwegian tour. Time I spent some weeks at home. I could claim this little cache resided beside some grand fjord, but actually, this nest was to be found literally in a car park of the University of Stavanger. The seagull whose eggs these were was around, watching me very carefully: as I would, in similar circumstances, I guess.

View of Stavanger

Thursday 13th June 2013, 8.10am (day 658)

Stavanger view, 13/6/13

As you’ve probably noticed I experience a lot of hotels. The Rica Forum on the outskirts of Stavanger is nothing special really: except in one respect. This is the view from its breakfast room.

Although I should add that I’d really like to meet the man (and it will have been a man) who thought that building that concrete monstrosity to left of centre was a good idea. Do you think we should go for a trial by jury, or move straight to the execution? Anyone who could willingly offend the eye so readily and permanently really must have been a severed child.

Dummy tree, Stavanger

Wednesday 12th June 2013, 6.15pm (day 657)

Dummy tree, 12/6/13

Here I am in Stavanger, another new place to add to the list. I could have chosen a picture of the great view from the breakfast room at my hotel, could have chosen one of a rather attractive swan by the lake, but here’s one of a bunch of baby’s dummies (pacifiers) tied to a pole in the woods. Hundreds and hundreds of them. I’m sure there’s a good reason for it.
