Charity shop

Sunday 20th September 2015, 12.05pm (day 1,487)

Charity shop, 20/9/15

Look at someone’s home space as opposed to a designed environment like a chain store, and everything will just feel a lot more natural in the former, because the space has grown naturally. Sometimes I feel this is also true of charity shops like this one, which is why they make more interesting subjects. The dog is just a temporary visitor, but does his/her bit too.

On the way to the match

Saturday 19th September 2015, 2.40pm (day 1,486)

Underpass, 19/9/15

The city of Wolverhampton makes its debut on the blog, and indeed in my life (with my never having been here before in my 46 and a bit years) but this shot could really be anywhere. Brighton and Wolves fans make their way to the pleasingly central Molineux to watch what turned out to be a 0-0 draw that probably we should have won, but I’m biased, as of course is everyone else.

Lees Road, Hebden Bridge

Friday 18th September 2015, 4.05pm (day 1,485)

Lees Road, 18/9/15

With this determination I have not to repeat myself on this blog, and living in a home town that isn’t really that big — there are only so many corners of it to photograph. But I’m pretty sure I haven’t done this one before.

New moon

Thursday 17th September 2015, 7.55pm (day 1,484)

New moon, 17/9/15

After having walked 25 miles over the last two days I was quite content never to leave the house today, so whatever you were getting as photo of the day was going to be very close to home — until the Moon showed up.

Seascale station

Wednesday 16th September 2015, 9.00am (day 1,483)

Seascale station, 16/9/15

Having stayed over on the Cumbrian coast last night there was plenty of opportunity to get the Irish Sea into the shot for the second day in a row. Seascale station is an idyllic place on a glorious morning like this, though I bet when the westerly gales are blowing, it is quite different. My spell-checker keeps wanting to change ‘Seascale’ to ‘seascape’, which I guess is appropriate in this case.

Offshore wind farm

Tuesday 15th September 2015, 1.10pm (day 1,482)

Wind farm, 15/9/15

Taken from Cold Fell, on the very western edge of the Lake District, looking out to the Irish Sea. I’m very aware that this is a subject that can cause mixed reactions; maybe it would help to know that if the camera had panned a couple of degrees to the right, Sellafield nuclear power station would have loomed large in the lens. It’s a choice, a very conscious one in a lot of ways.

Norfolk Street, Manchester

Monday 14th September 2015, 10.30am (day 1,481)

Norfolk Street, 14/9/15

Latest in the series “Back streets of Manchester city centre: often walked past, never photographed before”. This picture makes Norfolk Street look more important than it is — the restaurant you see here is about the only establishment with this as its address, I reckon.

Sunday market stallholders

Sunday 13th September 2015, 10.40am (day 1,480)

Sunday market, 13/9/15

The hair of the woman on the left, lit by the weak sun behind, was what caught my eye on this one, but I like the face of the other stallholder too.

Rainy day

Saturday 12th September 2015, 11.30am (day 1,479)

Rainy playground, 12/9/15

It cleared up considerably after about 1.30pm, but until then was pretty awful, vindicating my decision not to go on a Lake District walk today. These swings only seem to get pictured in bad weather.

Steve ponders the evening

Friday 11th September 2015, 5.45pm (day 1,478)

Steve ponders, 11/9/15

A last burst of September sun illuminates the tables outside the Railway, typical haunt of a Friday evening after work, where the accumulated clientele ponder their forthcoming weekends. Steve makes at least his 7th appearance on this blog and is the most-featured individual outside (in this order) Joe, Clare and myself. Which is a sign that we’re often in the same place — the aforementioned Railway…
