Oxford Road (under ominous skies)

Monday 16th October 2017, 10.00am (day 2,244)

Oxford Road flare, 16/10/17

I know I did this one yesterday, to some extent, but hey, it’s a different spot with added gold. Ominous skies all morning but although it’s got very windy this evening, major stormy weather doesn’t seem to be brewing up.  Which is a good thing, seeing as thirty years ago today (16th October 1987) the village I lived in at the time, Rotherfield in Sussex, had its 500-year old church spire blown down by the massive storm that hit the south of England that night.

Tower and trees

Thursday 12th October 2017, 12.05pm (day 2,240)

Eiffel Tower (HB), 12/10/17

There have been very few Hebden Bridge pictures on the blog recently; in the last sixty pictures, since 14th August, there have been only 10 before today (and five of them were in the first week of September). But there will be a run coming up; time to reconnect with home turf. The trees are just beginning to turn, the nights drawing in.

Outside the Manchester Museum

Tuesday 10th October 2017, 4.15pm (day 2,238)

Manchester museum, 10/10/17

Today, 10th October 2017, is the 26th anniversary of my coming to Yorkshire to stay for a short while, and never leaving. But here’s a picture from my workplace in Lancashire: a better attempt than the rather boring shot from last week I think.

Having chips

Sunday 8th October 2017, 8.45pm (day 2,236)

Second day in a row to somehow be connected to fast food. But hey, that was my weekend, whether at Bamber Bridge (as yesterday) or in the nation’s capital (as today)…

If it’s Manchester it’s a building site

Thursday 28th September 2017, 9.05am (day 2,226)

Chinatown building site, 28/9/17

A beautiful morning. Could not resist taking a photo. Could not avoid another building site. The whole city…. the whole city.

Site entrance (orange and blue)

Wednesday 27th September 2017, 5.40pm (day 2,225)

Site entrance, 27/9/17

In Manchester this week, yes, but it feels like a brief interlude, my October looks a little different than in previous years for various reasons. One constant though — Manchester’s a building site. It seems always to have been one, and possibly, now always will be one.

Man in hole

Monday 25th September 2017, 2.05pm (day 2,223)

Man in hole, 25/9/17

We’re all working away in a hole one way or another. Question is, I guess, can we make the most of our time in there?

Port operations

Friday 22nd September 2017, 11.00am (day 2,220)

St Malo port, 22/9/17

I did have a sea view from my hotel room in St. Malo. Kind of.

Last day in France. Despite the hassles getting here, it was a good trip.

St. Malo

Wednesday 20th September 2017, 2.40pm (day 2,218)

St Malo, 20/9/17

St Malo is on the northern coast of France, close to where the coast of Brittany takes a turn to the north and becomes Normandy. The old town is behind a complete ring of 17th century fortifications built to defend against the nasty English and Dutch. The tidal range here is extensive, some 45 feet between high tide and low; the broad beach you see here is completely covered by several feet of water twice a day.
