The dry dock in use

Monday 9th June 2014, 4.50pm (day 1,019)

Dry dock, 9/6/14

This doesn’t happen that often, but when it does it’s kind of impressive. The dry dock at Hebden Bridge marina is fully functional, and as you can see, well placed for a half-decent pub.

Hebden Bridge Handmade Parade, 2014

Sunday 8th June 2014, 12.45pm (day 1,018)

Handmade Parade, 8/6/14

Welcome back to the Handmade Parade, pictured also in 2012 and 2013 — an amazing outpouring of creativity and effort. I just photograph it, taking 319 pictures today in one hour and five minutes. To pick one is not easy (others will go on my Flickr site — link at bottom); with the colours and costumes being almost a given I try to focus on the good faces, and then it’s a matter of hoping the focus is just right. I’m particularly happy with this shot because this was played for and got.

Geese on the weir

Friday 6th June 2014, 4.35pm (day 1,016)

Geese on the weir, 6/6/14

More greenery! More waterfowl! It may or may not rain heavily tomorrow, but after my complaints yesterday, today was a beautiful day.

Green

Thursday 5th June 2014, 3.55pm (day 1,015)

Green, 5/6/14

Remember, the greener the landscape, the more it rains. West Yorkshire has become very green the last couple of weeks.

String section

Friday 30th May 2014, 10.55pm (day 1,009)

String section, 30/5/14

Second gig in a week, and there’ll be another one tomorrow. Unlike last Sunday’s arena event this was in the more intimate surroundings of the Trades Club, Hebden Bridge. And more mellow. Though not necessarily better.

The Muscovy duck finds a companion

Wednesday 28th May 2014, 4.10pm (day 1,007)

Muscovy duck, 28/5/14

It is over two years since this creature set up home in Hebden Bridge marina, first appearing on the blog in February 2012. As I have observed before, it is a long way from its natural home. I saw it standing outside the entrance to the tourist information office this afternoon, and thought at first that it was after food or something, but looking at this shot I wonder whether it might not just have been finding company in its reflection. This is the Muscovy duck’s fourth appearance on the blog (the remaining unlinked one is here) — few people have been on it as often.

A spot to read

Tuesday 27th May 2014, 2.50pm (day 1,006)

Afternoon reading, 27/5/14

Well, one can read just about wherever one likes, so yes, that is a pint also close at hand. Seasoned Drew followers will probably recognise the location of this shot.

Challenge

Monday 26th May 2014, 1.20pm (day 1,005)

Stepping stones, 26/5/14

I was willing this kid across these stepping stones — and he did make it — but I was just hoping he’d not set out to conquer his fear until after I’d got the shot.

Stallholder, Saturday market, Hebden Bridge

Saturday 24th May 2014, 11.15am (day 1,003)

Pet stall owner, 24/5/14

Motivating myself to keep things going after 1,000 days is not helped by being on (for me) a reasonably long run of time just in Hebden Bridge and Manchester. From 16th May until 15th June this is basically where I am. Hard to find new scenes, but I don’t think this one has made it before — the entrance to the occasional Saturday craft fair (which has been pictured from inside in the past, but never from here).
