Items for collection

Thursday 25th July 2024, 4.20pm (day 4,718)

Items by road, 25/7/24

Not quite the latest pic in the ‘abandoned shoes’ series, as there is a pair here. Along with the other items they seem to have been placed beside the Keighley Road pavement deliberately, for collection and subsequent use by anyone who needs them. So if anyone in Hebden Bridge does want an old telephone, a plastic wine glass, a nail file, the shoes or the other things which were in the pile but unseen — feel free to go and inspect.

A Bradford welcome

Sunday 18th June 2023, 9.30am (day 4,315)

Welcome Home Sexy, 18/6/23

Apparently a while back someone graffitied ‘Welcome Home Sexy’ on the approaches to Bradford Interchange railway station, to cheer up their partner, spouse, mate, or whatever. This has now become A Thing. A stylised version of the original message is still there beside the tracks, but not content with that, we get it by the station entrance too, next to the heroically decrepit retail establishment. But hey, why not, at least it isn’t another “Buy Corporate!” advertisement.

Necessary wear

Friday 28th August 2020, 3.35pm (day 3,291)

Wellingtons, 28/8/20

A foul day of almost constant rain, on which even the ducks were taking shelter, unconducive to any great inspiration. The only saving grace was that it was a Friday, and the forecast is better for the weekend to come.

Shoe shop (self-portrait)

Sunday 9th June 2019, 12.05pm (day 2,845)

Shoe shop, 9/6/19

After two new countries (new to the blog, at least) and several new locations over the last week and a half, the pendulum swings, and the next three weeks see me mainly at home. I can’t promise excitement but I will do my best, better than today I hope, anyway. As you can see I’m pondering a change of style. (Actually the shoes were being bought for Joe.) And more place-related trivia — the first ever weekend of the blog where both Saturday and Sunday shots were taken in Manchester.

Shoes, Thursday market

Thursday 29th March 2018, 4.10pm (day 2,408)

Shoe stall, 29/3/18

Another very uneventful, badly lit and photographically uninspiring day — but at least it marked my last day of work before a 10-day break. Expect… expect… well, not much out of the ordinary to tell the truth but at least I won’t be working until 9th April.

Admissions room, Alcatraz

Tuesday 31st March 2015, 2.40pm (day 1,314)

Admissions room, 31/3/15

As of tomorrow I’m working, but today still had time to do the tourist stuff. Alcatraz was definitely worth a visit, if only because I’ve never seen the inside of a prison before (honest) and one realises now how accurate all those movie sets can be. It was only a federal prison for just over 30 years, though — it’s been a tourist attraction longer than that.

Lost

Monday 11th June 2012, 2.45pm (day 291)

Lost shoes, 11/6/12

What little stories there are all around us sometimes. Who abandoned this pair of grubby, but otherwise serviceable-looking shoes by the side of this crossing over Oxford Road today – and why? Or have they struck out on their own, striking a blow for the freedom of brogues everywhere?
