Goal celebrations, Amex stadium

Saturday 21st February 2015, 4.10pm (day 1,276)

Goal, Amex, 21/2/15
My fourth-ever trip to the Amex stadium, home of my beloved Brighton & Hove Albion since 2011, and this is the third time it has appeared on the blog. This was also the first time Joe has been able to visit. He’s declaring for the Albion, which is a brave move for a Yorkshire-born 11-year-old, so it was good to see an exciting game, and a win — 4-3 for Brighton over Birmingham City. This picture was taken just after Inigo Calderon put the Albion 2-1 up.

Oscar the balloon

Sunday 4th May 2014, 12.05pm (day 983)

Oscar the balloon, 4/5/14

This was never intended to be today’s photo as it was just one of those jokey shots, but I kind of liked how it turned out. The balloon, recovered from yesterday’s celebrations at Nottingham, has been decorated in honour of Oscar Garcia, the hirsute and notably grumpy Brighton manager (see this image for instance).

The tension…

Saturday 3rd May 2014, 2.20pm (day 982)

Tension, 3/5/14

Impossible to get a shot that was both photographically interesting and which captured the drama of today’s events at the City Ground, Nottingham. This picture is as good as I could manage to capture the tension that was released by Leo Ulloa’s 92nd minute goal, one already burned into the memories of all Brighton & Hove Albion fans I am sure. If you want to read more about that, go to this page. I am too drained. Seagulls!!

Before the match, in the Gas Club

Friday 18th April 2014, 2.30pm (day 967)

In the Gas Club, 18/4/14

OK, so that’s two pictures in a row taken in a pub of people drinking beer. But the light was right. The Gas Club — on Gas Works Road — man, that’s unreconstructed North. Final score — Huddersfield 1, Brighton 1. The play-off dream is still on.

Reebok stadium, before the match

Saturday 15th March 2014, 12.30pm (day 933)

Reebok entrance, 15/3/14

Built in 1997, this is the home of Bolton Wanderers FC, who today lost 2-0 at home to the mighty Brighton & Hove Albion (blog followers have seen prior evidence of my interest in the victors). This picture was taken long before kick-off. I like the sense it gives, of waiting for things to start. The gate could be more symmetrical — but never mind.

Making a save

Saturday 25th January 2014, 4.20pm (day 884)

Good save, 25//1/14

Chris Neal, goalkeeper of Port Vale FC (with the rest of his team in white and black) tips a shot over the bar while assorted players of my beloved Brighton & Hove Albion FC look on, in today’s FA Cup 4th round match between the clubs. Brighton were 2-1 up at this point, and went on to win 3-1. Which is nice. In fact since the beginning of November (Doncaster) I have been to five games and seen five wins. And there’s another match coming up on Tuesday night.

Seagulls over Bloomfield Road

Sunday 29th December 2013, 3.15pm (day 857)

Seagulls, 29/12/13They came, they saw, they conquered. Blackpool FC (‘The Seasiders’) 0, Brighton & Hove Albion FC (‘The Seagulls’) 1. This picture taken from the away end at Bloomfield Road stadium, during one of longueurs which characterised the match — not a great one, it has to be said, but the right result. For the seagulls, anyway.

Dick Knight, at Doncaster v Brighton

Saturday 2nd November 2013, 3.55pm (day 800)

Dick Knight at Doncaster, 2/11/13

Went to Doncaster Rovers v Brighton today — we won 3-1. A good day out. This picture was taken at half-time. The gentleman in focus (and there is only one) is Dick Knight, the man who became chairman of Brighton in 1997, rescuing the club from the wasteland of the Bill Archer regime. In other words, he basically saved them from oblivion, keeping them going until 2009 when he passed the torch on to current owner Tony Bloom. I think it’s brilliant that he still goes to games as an ordinary fan. I shook his hand today, just because I wanted to say thank you for what he did.

I have reached a nice round number on the blog – day 800. I have updated the Best of the Rest and Stats pages accordingly.

Just before kick-off

Saturday 1st September 2012, 2.55pm (day 373)

Burnley v Brighton, 1/9/12

As I move into the second year of this blog, some things are going to recur. Some of them at the same time each year (tomorrow, for example, Clare is running Alice’s Run again), others at different times, like this one. Here we are at Turf Moor, Burnley, for this season’s match-up between Burnley FC and my beloved Brighton & Hove Albion. Last season it took place in April, on a cold, grey day – and the match (and result) lived up to those conditions. Today, earlier in the season, much sunnier and warmer, and a happier trip for the travelling Seagulls. Burnley 1, Brighton 3.

Joe at Turf Moor (Burnley FC)

Friday 6th April 2012, 2.45pm (day 225)

Joe at Burnley, 6/4/12

Good Friday, and the 7th football match to feature on this blog since I began on 26/8/11. And of all the 7, this one was the worst. From Joe’s mood here you can tell the match hasn’t kicked off yet. (Result: Burnley 1, Brighton 0. Even completists might be bored by the information that the other six matches on here have ended Morecambe 2-3 Bristol Rovers, Brighton 2-0 Barnsley, Morecambe 1-2 Accrington Stanley, Leeds 1-2 Brighton [Yes!!], Liverpool 6-1 Brighton [er… not so good], Brighton 2-0 Portsmouth.)
