If this isn’t the world’s finest beer then I’d like to taste the one that is. Proof that God exists, at least in the Abbaye St-Remy, Rochefort, Belgium.

Well, one can read just about wherever one likes, so yes, that is a pint also close at hand. Seasoned Drew followers will probably recognise the location of this shot.
This morning I was invited to visit the workplace of my friend Simon, on the right here; he is the boss of the Slightly Foxed Brewing Company. I just had an interest in seeing the process of making the very nice beer his company come out with on a regular basis. We started early — the brewer, also called Simon, had started on the day’s batch at about 6.30am. Here, the two Simons inspect a brew that has been in these fermentation vats for a few days and should have been ready to go out, but it is still too cloudy.
I have seen a few real koalas: most in captivity, including at the Lone Pine zoo here in Brisbane (where I also saw the cassowary); the only one I have seen in the wild was spotted on Kangaroo Island. This toy looks far more awake and alert than most of the real ones do, they are such dozy beasts. Maybe it’s the beer, or the frigid pipe on which he’s sat.
The Blue Pig sits in the woods and opens at random and unpredictable times. It’s a kind of Harry Potterish pub. I quite like this shot because of the double reflection of the guy in the picture frames.
After the conference dinner this evening we were herded into a room and plied with free beer. It could be worse…. Røde Mor means ‘Red Momma’ (Røde Modre would be ‘Red Mother’) and is one of many products of Nyborg’s local Refsvindinge Brewery which have kept me going these last couple of days. Cool label too. Should you be here I strongly recommend it.
Must say I approve of this recent trend, of the establishment of temporary office accommodation – offering free wi-fi and refreshments of an alcoholic nature – at several points on the way home from work. Just the thing for the tired professional who wants to marry his unfortunate need to do more work with his understandable need for a beer. The service pictured here is provided by the White Lion, Hebden Bridge. There are others. Any one would have been welcome after a day that started early, finished late, and I still have to pack to go back to Norway tomorrow.
Took a few reasonable photos today but if you want one to really encapsulate the day then here it is. Beer. In front of a real fire. This is how I want to spend my Friday evenings after work, and today, I did.
I like cooking. I like beer. It was an inevitability that the two would come together at some point. This is my third ever batch of home-made beer. I’ll tell you around Christmastime whether it was any good or not.
