Hebden Water, first day of February

Saturday 1st February 2014, 10.55am (day 891)

Hebden Water, 1/2/14

There’s not been a great deal of sun at the moment so when some emerges let’s grab as much of it as we can, with all its associated flare and everything.

Joe, in the Italian restaurant

Friday 31st January 2014, 7.20pm (day 890)

Joe, restaurant, 31/1/14

It’s been a strange week, but it ended as many do, and certainly resembled the start of most of those weekends that come just after pay day — that is, we ate out. Here’s to the weekend.

Front step view

Wednesday 29th January 2014, 5.40pm (day 888)

Front step view, 29/1/14

Day 888, so a neat day numerically, but I’m still laid low by whatever virus it is that has taken up residence in my body so my horizons have shrunk somewhat. What is this abstract? A footway sign, the flare from a street lamp, and steam from a neighbour’s heating vent illuminated by the traffic light behind.

At the optician’s

Tuesday 28th January 2014, 2.25pm (day 887)

Spectacles, 28/1/14

Was still functioning at about 25% of normal power today, but this was an improvement. Dragged myself out in the afternoon and then immediately faced another sign of my deteriorating capacities — a fitting for my first pair of reading glasses. Well, it comes to us all.

Bedroom door (best view of the day)

Monday 27th January 2013, 3.05pm (day 886)

Bedroom door, 27/1/14

Well, today was a photographic challenge — because since shortly after taking yesterday’s shot I have been feeling ill and spent almost the whole of today in bed. This burst of sunlight onto the back of the bedroom door is therefore the best you get today. You may yet get the same tomorrow. And why does the door have two handles? A legacy of when this was Joe’s room and he was still just a toddler.

Clare and Joe in Argos

Sunday 26th January 2014, 1.00pm (day 885)

Shopping, 26/1/14

Not that I typically do this retail therapy crap. But sometimes, needs must. Joe tries to make out he’s taking an interest.

Making a save

Saturday 25th January 2014, 4.20pm (day 884)

Good save, 25//1/14

Chris Neal, goalkeeper of Port Vale FC (with the rest of his team in white and black) tips a shot over the bar while assorted players of my beloved Brighton & Hove Albion FC look on, in today’s FA Cup 4th round match between the clubs. Brighton were 2-1 up at this point, and went on to win 3-1. Which is nice. In fact since the beginning of November (Doncaster) I have been to five games and seen five wins. And there’s another match coming up on Tuesday night.

Valley Taxis office

Friday 24th January 2014, 5.10pm (day 883)

Taxi office, 24/1/14

Very useful on some Friday nights, after you celebrate the end of the week at the pub, or possibly at the Moshi Monsters movie at the cinema next door.

Hebden Bridge station café

Thursday 23rd January 2014, 7.25am (as you can see) (day 882)

Station cafe, 23/1/14

This place is a godsend early in the morning, and rarely empty. I’m not normally round this corner, but for once I had my cup of tea sat down at the tables inside instead of on the train. Earliest shot for a while, since late November in fact (and only the fourth shot before 7.30 in the last 12 months). It’s still dark outside at this time.

Mayroyd Moorings, Rochdale Canal

Wednesday 22nd January 2014, 8.20am (day 881)

Mayroyd moorings, 22/1/14

A reasonable proportion of the population of Hebden Bridge live on the water, specifically, the Rochdale Canal. These private moorings spread along the canal for a few hundred yards in the direction of Mytholmroyd (to where I was walking this morning, dodging the muddy puddles on the towpath).
