Not an exciting day today I can assure you, but it was never going to be. Except at the end of the match at Hampden, which I guess was pretty exciting, although it’s been a while since I could really raise it for England F. C.
The photo was taken, and it does epitomise what was a wonderfully sunny and warm day, particularly later on. But I frankly don’t really care what it was like or about, on what was another stellar day in recent British history. I was supposed to be going to Manchester today, but had an enforced day at home because of the closure of Manchester Victoria station for reasons of which I am sure you’re probably aware. At the moment I feel angry with just about everything.
I do like a good alleyway. They are the capillaries of the road network, the little incipient runnels in the tops of hillsides that then broaden out into streams and rivers.
Carlton Street in Hebden Bridge, named for Carlton Chambers, the building with the clock tower, and distinguished by the walkway connecting it with the premises over the road, long unused except as a vantage point for pigeons to dump on the heads of pedestrians below.
Normally, litter bins of various kinds are the bane of photographic composition (along with cars, telegraph wires and lamp-posts). But just occasionally one flowers into attractiveness, as here, I hope. Another beautiful spring day with excellent light, I hope this lasts a while.
The new tram lines are in place in Manchester, just behind the point from where this shot was taken: but building work is alive and well in the city centre. At some undefined point in the future — 2021, say — it might be possible to walk through the city without encountering some major construction project or other, but I have my doubts.
Another nice morning and a sunny day followed. Off we all go to work in our various ways — or possibly, come home again.
Am I making a political point? Well…. not as strongly as I certainly would have twenty years ago, and probably would have ten years ago. But it is May 1st, International Labour Day and all that, and at least this party don’t have plans to abolish it, like the other lot of moronocrats. Vote L…. well, just vote, is all.
Is he engaging in some Japanese-style blossom worship? (You see Japan — we have blossom too….) Or just clambering along a precarious wall, as small boys do to entertain themselves and worry their parents?
Even if the Chinese Arch is visible, almost side-on, in the background. I don’t know if this is a photo of anything. I don’t think I’ve been taking photos of specific things over the last few days. This is more about colours, shapes, textures. Maybe that’s where my head is.
