Stormy sky, Stavanger

Tuesday 9th September 2014, 6.05pm (day 1,111)

Stavanger storm, 9/9/14

Day 1,111 of the blog, so something of a numerical curiosity, and worth trying to mark with a decent photo, at least. This is the old Port of Stavanger, still used by cruise ships and tourist fjord cruises, caught in the evening light but with a dark and stormy sky behind — though the storm never actually came. I like the single seagull caught in the rays.

Flags in the evening sun

Sunday 7th September 2014, 5.30pm (day 1,109)

Flags, 7/9/14

Beautiful day today, coming at that time of year when you want to make the most of each day of very good weather in case it’s the last such day you see for 8 months. These flags have appeared this weekend in that much-photographed spot opposite the tables outside the Railway, and posed well in the evening light — those sunsets getting ever earlier as the world turns.

Platform 1, Hebden Bridge station

Tuesday 2nd September 2014, 8.40am (day 1,104)

Platform 1, 2/9/14

Sometimes the shot is just a consequence of being stood in the right spot at the right time, isn’t it? And you wait ages for a photogenic plastic bag to come along, then there’s two in two days…

Working the lock

Wednesday 27th August 2014, 12.05pm (day 1,098)

Canal lock, 27/8/14

An uneventful day, but at least the canal in Hebden Bridge usually comes up with some kind of animated scene, particularly at the moment when the summer tourist traffic is coming through. This family seemed proficient enough at working the lock. I wonder if the kid realises that two hundred years ago, all things being equal, he’d have been doing that full-time.

Bin day

Thursday 21st August 2014, 8.50am (day 1,092)

Bins and sofa, 21/8/14

Thursday on Keighley Road is when the bin men come. Our neighbour was feeling ambitious this time round.

This is a rare ‘photowhack’: the one and only photo I took on a given day. That’s how exciting 21/8/14 really was.

The Hebden Water

Tuesday 19th August 2014, 8.15am (day 1,090)

Hebden Water, 19/8/14

Tempting as it is to simply stick up a picture of the scoreboard that concluded tonight’s football match at Elland Road (Leeds Utd 0, Brighton & Hove Albion 2 – yes!)… this is the best non-partisan shot I got today. A beautiful morning in town.

Scaffolding, Oxford Road

Monday 18th August 2014, 1.55pm (day 1,089)

Scaffolding, 18/8/14

Not very exciting I know, but then there’s not much outwardly going on at the moment on campus — though seeing as the A-level results are out, probably rather more behind the scenes. There is a sort of underlying green-ness to this shot that I quite like, however.

August field

Thursday 14th August 2014, 2.50pm (day 1,085)

August field, 14/8/14

To call the weather over the last 7 days ‘unsettled’ is a gross understatement — it’s hardly been the same for half an hour at a time, all week. This was taken as I exploited a relatively sunny period this afternoon to grab more blackberries. (I seek to make wine again.) Most of the rest of the day after this, it was wet. Then dry again. Repeat…

More rain

Sunday 10th August 2014, 11.20am (day 1,081)

More rain, 10/8/14

Not as intense as the burst two days ago, but far more persistent. A Sunday to stay in, so limited photo opps — a mundane weekend in that regard.

Saturday evening

Saturday 9th August 2014, 7.50pm (day 1,080)

Outside Railway, 9/8/14

Sometimes one just has to admit that all the photos one took in a given day are fundamentally crap. This was one of those days. So here’s a crap photo… but of a good night out, first here, then the Picture House across the road (The One-Hundred Year Old Man Who Jumped Out Of A Window And Disappeared — long title, great movie).
