Jackdaw, early morning

Friday 4th July 2014, 6.45am (day 1,044)

Jackdaw, early morning, 4/7/14

I like the way this bird (which apparently is a jackdaw, not a rook as I originally identified it) looks aspirational, as if it’s seen something up there and (unlike poor grounded humanity) knows that within a couple of seconds it can reach it. I also like the focus and the lines of the slates below it. All not bad going for 6.45am, the first time I’ve done a shot remotely at this time since November.

Warning sign on Keighley Road

Wednesday 2nd July 2014, 8.40am (day 1,042)

Warning sign, 2/7/14

You knew the Tour de France was coming past the front door of my house on Sunday afternoon, right? Well, if not, you do now.

Let sleeping ducks lie

Friday 27th June 2014, 8.30am (day 1,037)

Sleeping ducks, 27/6/14

I make it there are 20 mallards in this picture, and unless I’m mistaken, every one of them is asleep. Proof of one thing anyway — ducks are sensible creatures, who keep leisurely working hours.

Cinema steps

Sunday 15th June 2014, 1.50pm (day 1,025)

Cinema steps, 15/6/14

Was taken here this afternoon to see Who Framed Roger Rabbit? as a Fathers’ Day treat — and a tribute to Bob Hoskins (RIP). Maybe this isn’t the most inspiring photo (with all due respect to the person in it); but it brings to an end a full month of pictures that, with the exception of one Lake District shot, have all been taken in Hebden Bridge or Manchester, or points inbetween. But I’m off travelling again tomorrow.

The dry dock in use

Monday 9th June 2014, 4.50pm (day 1,019)

Dry dock, 9/6/14

This doesn’t happen that often, but when it does it’s kind of impressive. The dry dock at Hebden Bridge marina is fully functional, and as you can see, well placed for a half-decent pub.

Hebden Bridge Handmade Parade, 2014

Sunday 8th June 2014, 12.45pm (day 1,018)

Handmade Parade, 8/6/14

Welcome back to the Handmade Parade, pictured also in 2012 and 2013 — an amazing outpouring of creativity and effort. I just photograph it, taking 319 pictures today in one hour and five minutes. To pick one is not easy (others will go on my Flickr site — link at bottom); with the colours and costumes being almost a given I try to focus on the good faces, and then it’s a matter of hoping the focus is just right. I’m particularly happy with this shot because this was played for and got.

Geese on the weir

Friday 6th June 2014, 4.35pm (day 1,016)

Geese on the weir, 6/6/14

More greenery! More waterfowl! It may or may not rain heavily tomorrow, but after my complaints yesterday, today was a beautiful day.

Green

Thursday 5th June 2014, 3.55pm (day 1,015)

Green, 5/6/14

Remember, the greener the landscape, the more it rains. West Yorkshire has become very green the last couple of weeks.
