St. George’s Bridge

Saturday 30th November 2013, 12.10pm (day 828)

St George's bridge, 30/11/13

It’s St. Andrew’s Day, but this is St. George’s bridge over the Hebden Water, built by the Victorians. The ‘mist’ is in fact dust, caused by someone attacking what seemed like most of a monument with an angle grinder, but I wasn’t complaining.

Croft Mill apartments, before dawn

Friday 29th November 2013, 6.35am (day 827)

Croft Mill, 29/11/13

It is actually easy to get this shot, if one is up before dawn and walking along Commercial Street in HB. However, it is chosen today to epitomise the fact that I do still have early mornings now and again. The sabbatical largely cured me of this affliction, but not entirely. This is the earliest shot since Abu Dhabi airport on 27th May, and the sixth-earliest ever on the blog.

Mayroyd Mill

Thursday 28th November 2013, 8.45am (day 826)

Mayroyd Mill, 28/11/13

You have seen this scene before on the blog (like here, for example), but despite my desire to avoid repetition, it’s a frequently passed view and hard to resist it sometimes. Look to the east as you pass over the canal bridge near Hebden Bridge railway station — you’ll see it.

Liberty Belle prepares her act

Wednesday 27th November 2013, 10.05am (day 825)

Liberty Belle balloons, 27/11/13

Noted local burlesque performer Liberty Belle here prepares to run through her balloon act in the rehearsal studio over the road. OK, so it’s a blonde in her underwear, but I’m still claiming it’s art. Or life. Or whatever.

The ‘tache grows

Tuesday 26th November 2013, 3.15pm (day 824)

Drew's moustache, 26/11/13

Movember, day 26. If you think this is funny you should see the photo currently gracing my Movember page where you can also, should you wish, donate a small amount to the worthy causes being supported.

University Place and Oxford Road

Monday 25th November 2013, 10.10am (day 823)

Oxford Road, 25/11/13This will be a long run of pictures from only Hebden Bridge and Manchester. These will continue to be rich seams for photography as long as the light is right, which it certainly was today. And the other astonishing, perhaps even unrepeatable feature of this shot is that there is NO TRAFFIC. Just for a moment.

Solving Sudoku

Sunday 24th November 2013, 3.55pm (day 822)

Sudoku, 24/11/13Never seen the point of this particular puzzle myself — but Clare likes it and it’s good brain-exercise for the Boy. Sunday afternoon in the pub: a relaxing weekend comes to a close.

Scaffolding on Albert Street

Saturday 23rd November 2013, 9.50am (day 821)

Scaffolding, 23/11/13

Despite spending several hours in Wigan today, a location that has yet to make its debut on this blog, any shots that might have arisen from there had already been trumped by this morning’s opportunities at home, proof that just about anything can turn into a decent photo as long as the light is right. And boy, this morning, was it right.

Nutclough Mill and Hebden Water

Friday 22nd November 2013, 4.25pm (day 820)

Nutclough Mill, 22/11/13

A definite ‘Thank God it’s Friday’ day and also ‘thank God I was not commuting into Manchester’ after the last two days (I won’t bore you with the details). Those working in Calrec Audio as dusk fell this Friday may or may not have felt their own version of the same emotions.

Contact Theatre café

Thursday 21st November 2013, 12.45pm (day 819)

Contact Theatre café, 21/11/13

A second day beset by more Russians than is considered the usual amount; and two awful train journeys, particularly the one going home. This oasis stands reasonbly close to my office and I’m surprised it’s never featured on the blog before day 819, to be honest.

And no, I couldn’t say exactly what he’s doing. Occam’s Razor suggests ‘eating’, but what, I don’t know.
