Sunday 7th June 2015, 12.20pm (day 1,382)
You know the score by now I am sure, and in any case had a week’s advance notice of this year’s Handmade Parade in Hebden Bridge. The sun shone and a fine day was had by all.

The Handmade Parade is probably Hebden Bridge’s best annual photo-opportunity, explaining why it’s appeared in 2012, 2013 and 2014, and will again next Sunday. But, for the first time, here’s a capture of the preparations, with me not bothered this year that I know what Clare and Joe’s costume will be in advance. I love the chaos of this shot; imagine all the parade squashed up inside a single building, and there you have it.
At the end of a week that I have mostly spent marking but which tired me out anyway. Where else to go but the pub?
Although a little colder than it has been today was another nice day, somewhat in defiance of the weather forecast. I like this shot because of the impressive vertical of the trunk on the right and the feeling it gives of the tree shooting upwards; plus the roof sneaking in the background, that’s very Hebden Bridge.
One assumes that he fitted through the window on the way out, so will also fit through on the way back. Otherwise, he’s in difficulty — there is nothing below him except a ten-foot drop to the Rochdale Canal.
Spring has definitely sprung. These geese — pictured from about 15 feet up — were enjoying it as much as everyone else today. Particularly those of us who are having a week off work (though I’d like to get over the jet lag please).
On quiet days spent working at home, at least the ducks down by the river in town usually provide a photo opportunity. This one gave it up for the camera but definitely was after something in return, like food, mainly.
The muscovy ducks on the marina were getting aggressive this afternoon. Two began fighting, I assume over the third, all-white one (a female?) visible in the background of this shot, looking on while the battle she has provoked rages in her honour. Couldn’t alter the camera settings quickly enough to have a chance of capturing the shot with any sharpness, considering how fast they were moving in the low light. But what gets me about it is their placid-looking smiley faces, which here persist even when a rival is pecking on one’s back.
So, this is Peter Hook. Bass player with Joy Division (who then became New Order), the greatest rock band ever to walk the surface of the Earth. Playing in my home town. I could walk home afterwards. it was….. worth seeing.
We’ve been blessed by good weather for some weeks but things appear to be on the turn. Awful weather this morning, though the afternoon was OK until sunset, pictured here from the back of the house and with some serious cropping to get rid of all that distracting town below — though the top of the Nutclough Mill tower sneaks unobtrusively in.
