Outside Victoria station

Thursday 15th November 2012, 10.45am (day 448)

Outside Victoria, 15/11/12

I really like this shot, and its grid-like structure – I like it even more if I claim that the smudge on the lens is some kind of artistic statement on my part. This chap with his headphones on looked very chilled out this morning, good for him.

By the Mancunian Way

Monday 5th November 2012, 3.25pm (day 438)

Manchester leaves, 5/11/12

This photo was taken right at the point where a slip road – that’s it behind the fence – curves off the busy A34 road and heads up to the even busier Mancunian Way (the city centre relief road). I’m stood right by a flyover that still bears the commemorative plaque awarded in 1968 by the ‘Concrete Society’ (no kidding) and in the background is one of the locality’s grimmer 1960s housing blocks.

All the same, it’s rather pretty at the moment isn’t it?

Front door, Old Gate

Sunday 28th October 2012, 1.45pm (day 430)

Front door, 28/10/12

Although duller and wetter than Friday and Saturday, today brought a very decent, and proper, weekend to an end, one I very much needed. Had gone through the last two blog posts without drawing any attention to how good the colours are in Hebden Bridge at the moment, so this is my attempt to make up for it. This is taken on the street of Old Gate.

Dracula’s Castle, the University of Manchester

Monday 8th October 2012, 4.15pm (day 410)

Beyer building, 8/10/12

Actually this is the Beyer Building, at the University of Manchester, in some rather spectacular autumn plumage. But it does look like Dracula’s castle. I can quite see him striding past one of those windows in the middle of the night. (Or perhaps I think that because personages of the university administration reside here.)

Cathedral grounds, Trondheim

Tuesday 2nd October 2012, 4.50pm (day 404)

Trondheim cathedral, 2/10/12

Trondheim is the third-largest city in Norway, founded in 997. At 63º25’N, it’s the northernmost place I have ever been, which explains why the autumn colours have arrived here rather earlier than at home. This is a good thing – the place looks stunning at the moment. These are the grounds of the Nidaros cathedral, built in 1070, the northernmost medieval cathedral in the world, and a very impressive monument.

Midgehole Road woods, Hebden Bridge

Saturday 19th November 2011, 1.25pm (day 86)

Midgehole woods, 19/11/11

Glorious day today. Even the Boy wanted to take a walk. No other comment necessary.

Golden light, University of Manchester

Thursday 3rd November 2011, 3.55pm (day 70)

Golden light, 3/11/11

I know if I keep repeating it too long this ‘golden light, golden colours’ theme might start to get a little wearing. But surely we can’t sustain this for much longer, so let’s make the most of it while it lasts.

Hebden Bridge in autumn plumage. Definitely a good time of year to be here.
