Turning their backs

Sunday 25th October 2020, 2.20pm (day 3,349)

Not watching, 25/10/20

I can see no reason at all for this rather odd sight of spectators at today’s football match turning their back on Newcastle United women’s no. 21, Maisie Cole. Except that there was a game on the other pitch below. Mind you, as the game between Newcastle and Brighouse was 0-0, they didn’t miss much.

The FA Cup comes to Brighouse

Sunday 5th January 2019, 2.35pm (day 3,055)

FA Cuo at Brighouse, 5/1/20

One match to go, one victory more and there will be the chance to play the big teams in the Women’s FA Cup. But alas this was not to be the fate of Brighouse, in orange. Visitors Barnsley get the prize with a 1-0 win (and yes, it was a penalty). My mother aside, there haven’t been many people on the blog lately, so let’s compensate for that today; there were 321 spectators today, more than BTFC’s men’s team have managed for most games thise season.

The winners

Friday 21st June 2019, 5.25pm (day 2,857)

Isle of Man women, 21/6/19

People have been very much in the background of the blog in the last three weeks, if they appear at all. There have been glimpses of a foot here and there, the back of a head.

Football has also been absent from the blog over the last three weeks, but hey, all close seasons must end, mine as soon as possible. The women seen here are the from Isle of Man team and are celebrating their win in the 2019 Island Games tournament final, 2-1 over Ynys Môn, also known as Anglesey.

The connection between these two absences may be coincidental, but I like it.

View from the dugout

Sunday 14th January 2018, 2.40pm (day 2,334)

Dugout view, 14/1/18

A weekend of diverse entertainments continued at the over-named ‘Stafflex Arena’ as Huddersfield Town Ladies took on Leicester City Women in the Women’s Premier North and I collected my 17th different football competition of the season. Well, like this blog, it’s something to do isn’t it. A 1-1 draw — both sides might have benefited from practicing their finishing skills a little more.

Doncaster Belles FC

Sunday 29th October 2017, 3.55pm (day 2,257)

Donny Belles, 29/10/17

This picture is slightly unfair to our hosts for the afternoon, namely Doncaster Rovers Belles FC, here in yellow and blue, as their Women’s Super League 2 match (my 9th football competition of the season) versus Aston Villa Ladies was watched by a few hundred people, but that was only enough to occupy seats in one side of the Keepmoat stadium in Doncaster. Those few hundred made plenty of noise though (more than, say, West Bromwich Albion’s fans did when they were beaten by Brighton back in September), and rightly so — the Belles won 6-0. Meaning I have seen 37 goals in 9 games this season; none of this has anything to do with photography I know, but I get my trivia fixes from all over, these days.
