Whipped cream mountains

Friday 6th February 2015, 2.10pm (day 1,261)

Creamy mountains, 6/2/15

I know I did the snowy mountain shot on my way into Bergen, and here we are doing it again on the way back home, but it was either that or a photo of my breakfast. This one is better. And creamier.

On Mount Fløyen

Wednesday 4th February 2015, 4.30pm (day 1,259)

Mount Fløyen, 4/2/15

If in doubt for something to do in Bergen (and you’ve finished work for the day), take the funicular and come up here. This is Fløyfellet’s second appearance on the blog, the first being well over three years ago (27th Nov 2011), and the second shot in a row of a snowy Norwegian scene with a vaguely supernatural element.

Sea-monster island, near Bergen

Tuesday 3rd February 2015, 3.50pm (day 1,258)

Sea monster island, 3/2/15

As pictured from the final descent into Bergen Flesland airport this afternoon. Tell me I’m not the only person who sees this. I’m just waiting for the moment at which it snaps its jaws open and consumes the yacht without a trace.I have looked for this island (or peninsula, or archipelago) on a map of the area but can’t identify it; perhaps it only reveals its monstrous nature from this very specific angle.

Postscript: As the comment indicates one of my followers has since identified this as the island of Snilstveitøy.

By the canal, February morning

Monday 2nd February 2015, 8.30am (day 1,257)

Jogger, 2/2/15

Today is the last of 66 days in a row for me in the UK, which I guess isn’t very long, but it is the second-longest UK-bound period of this blog. I was in Manchester today but the run ended with a damn fine — but cold — Hebden Bridge morning.

Hillside

Sunday 1st February 2015, 10.55am (day 1,256)

Hillside, 1/2/15

As viewed from our allotment this morning. I alleviated the pain of yesterday’s football by going out and tilling the land, or something like that. A sunny day, but cold, to greet February.

Rooves and windows, Hebden Bridge

Thursday 29th January 2015, 12.10pm (day 1,253)

Rooves and windows, 29/1/15

As seen from the back of my house — which I did not leave today. Too much marking to do, and too cold, though not the snow fall that was forecast.

More winter

Wednesday 28th January 2015, 3.30pm (day 1,252)

Hail storm, 28/1/15

This hail storm was just the prelude, so the forecasts say. All of last week’s snow disappeared overnight on Monday — but it seems this week’s is well on the way.

In the snow

Wednesday 21st January 2015, 12.25pm (day 1,245)

Clare in snow, 21/1/15

It snowed again. A lot. Enough to make it kind of enjoyable, and that’s why I like this picture — the look of pleasure on Clare’s face. OK, let’s self-criticse about the tree growing out of her shoulder, but hey.

Snowy sunset

Tuesday 20th January 2015, 3.50pm (day 1,244)

Snowy sunset, 20/1/15

A familiar scene in so many ways, but we should keep our eyes open all the time, you never know when the same old view will take on a subtle character that you’ve not noted before.

Maggie rolls in the snow

Sunday 18th January 2015, 10.30am (day 1,242)

Maggie snow, 18/1/15

A stupendous morning. With our house guests (see yesterday) having brought Maggie the labrador I took the opportunity to make the most of it. I never quite got a version of this shot that was fully what I wanted but this is near enough.
